Phoebe
Aunty Cardboard
Kirsty
Emmur
Caroline
Phil
I know everyone cannot be on the show all of the time but these seem to have been forgotten since before Chrsitmas it seems
It is a function of our rather large cast size, I'm afraid, that there will be significant periods when we don't hear from particular characters, but we do try to refer to them if they aren't actually cast.
Phil, Christine, Emma and Caroline had mentions in Christmas week (probably elsewhere as well, but I remember that week because I wrote it).
Phil is on air in a couple of weeks.
Phoebe is featured (not cast) in scripts of mine in mid-Feb and Caroline (assuming she accepts the booking) in scripts for mid-March that I'm planning now.
Fair enough; now, if you could just promise us that Kirsty reappears and finds out exactly why Sam dumped her, we'd be happy!
Keri, is there any reason why Christine does not appear? Is the actress unable to take part or does not want to? I miss Christine and would like to hear how she is getting on without George.

Hurrah, we all have our favourites and I like Caroline and Phil muchly but I do think over Christmas not to have at least heard from Emmur is odd especially when it is her son being parcelled about from hers, to grandparents and to visit his Dad and she is always shopping or something!

How much would it cost to hear something of Wolfgang and Constanza? Pass the hat round.
reply to Elnora Cornstalk in message 6
Pound in the pink hat.
[None of this is Salieri's fault, either]

Auntie Cardboard's character needs to be revived or killed off in my opinion. It's inconceivable she wouldn't have been involved in Jack and Peggoi's recent travails (in a positive way).
She and niece Shula used to have a close and almost non-judgemental relationship; surely Shugs could/would have confided in her aunt for advice and consolation regarding the TVOA/churchwarden/HinduGate situation?

HinduGate - in that Shugs wasn't 'Deep Throat' (no smirking please) when we all know it was Radio Carter that blabbed to the press about the Bunter/Gupta nuptials in such a negative fashion.

She does appear, but I do agree it's very very rare nowadays. There's no particular reason.

'and Caroline (assuming she accepts the booking)'
this worries me, aren't all the actors on a retainer, might we never hear from caroline or Sid or etc ever again because they don't 'accept the booking'? This makes me feel rather insecure. I like caroline and would be sorry not to hear from her ever ever again.
From what Keri's said here before, none of the actors are on a retainer, not even Norman Painting who has been in the cast for nearly 60 years. If they chose to leave, that would be that - as did happen with Sam Barriscale, who played John. More likely to happen the other way round, though, from what I can see - e.g. re-casting of Lilian, decision to make Tim and Janet move away.

I do hope she is not 'written out' in any way, shape or form. I do agree that her absence does not seem natural and I am sure that in earlier times she would have been involved with the other characters. The SWs missed a good opportunity to portray an older character living on their own. We are 'treated' to seemingly endless efforts by Mike to cope after Betty's death but not a word about Chris. I find myself listening closely for explanations as to her absence, eg. Christmas with Peter, tour with the orchestra etc. The speaker who utters these lines seems to rush through them as if they can barely bring themselves to mention their sister, sister in law, aunt or whatever.
Please bring her back or make her non-appearance a bit more convincing.
smarttedebear in message 15
They never seem to invite her to Special family Teas, any more, or to Anniversary Dinners, or to see Peggy, her sister in law, on her birthday or wedding anniversary, or Phil, her brother, on his: she never drops round with a card, or gets a hushed, "This is the Anniversary of George's death!" or "Was that Terry who just went to visit Chris?"
One can only conclude, she's kidnapped Pheebs, and is shut up with her in the cottage, playing Hansel and Gretel.
Excuse my ignorance but who's Auntie Cardboard???!
(I've only been listening for 6 yrs)

Auntie Cardboard is Christine Barford nee Archer, Phil's sister.

I have to agree that Christine's absence from the programme is very strange.
Keri says in message 12:
"She does appear, but I do agree it's very very rare nowadays. There's no particular reason."
Keri, very, very rare indeed.
According to my records, she appeared in only one episode last year - that on 16 April.
And in 2007 she was only in three episodes:
9 October;
8 November;
12 November.
There surely has to be a very good reason for this?

Phoebe was reported as having been seen in Loch Ness in May, but the source is unreliable (whisky).

Just to maintain the balance here, some of us think that the number of appearances that Aunty Chris has is just about right ...

But some of you like Matt!
So that's no excuse!
In reply to RosieT in message 20:
Rosie, I think I can answer your query re Phoebe.
Put it this way: compared to Auntie Chris's single appearance in 2008, she was rather more busy, appearing in three episodes:
Sunday 9 March;
Wednesday 12 March;
Sunday 28 September;
You can see from the info I keep that I'm a very sad person,!

I'm glad somebody keeps these stats.
Bacl in the day there was a poster with the name CorneliousVandermuylen (or something similar) who maintained a detailed amd meticulous record of TA appearances; is he still around?

It's an American idiom. Can't remember when I first heard it but certainly before the 80s. Now it's all over the place.

Thanks V-F. I'm sure I've only heard it in the past year or so, I can remember feeling puzzled the first time I encountered it and working out what it must mean. As I sais, I'm still not sure I like the term. (But then, I was taught at school that 1 billion = 1,000,000,000,000 and I'm still waiting to be officially told otherwise!)

I find her style infinitely preferable to the screechy, squeaky, mangle an accent style beloved of a few actors.

When will the scripts face up to the fact that a lot of caracters will need to be killed off. I have been listening since the program started and the lack of death is unreal. Why wait until the actor dies or has to go to meet Pru and Mrs Antrobus, or is the solution to imitate Emmerdale and have a major disaster/epidemic and wipe them all out in one go.

This is just fantastic:
can only imply that the lack of death among TA actors is 'unreal'.

How Joe Grundy hasn't got a smoking related condition ( not necessarily lung affected) but circulatory problems for instance, I can't understand considering how long he has been smoking.
There are several who should by now have dodgy livers considering how much alcohol of various kinds they have imbibed over the years. Why have none of the women over 50 had 'Hysterical Rectums', who has had their blood lipides routinely done and are therefore taking the statins and getting the side effects, or waiting for their cataract ops? In other words the sort of things most of us of a similar age are living with! Not to mention all the men over 60 getting uninterrupted nights' sleep.......( aside from Mr Pullen that is) SFAnneâ„¢

I don't know why Mark and Guy were 'killed off'. The actors playing Betty and John both wanted to leave the programme. Has there been an actor who did not want to leave but was written out of the series and had to be dragged kicking and screaming away fom the microphone?

Mark and Guy were both killed for storyline purposes, rather than because the actors wanted to leave.
But there was no kicking and screaming. We're a more stoical bunch than that.
