Have we ever been told anything about Brian's parents or his family before he married Jennifer?
Is he an only child, did his parents die?

I think his parents died before his arrival in Ambridge (in common with as few other Archer spouses) leaving him the inheritance with which he bought Home Farm.

He had a sister at one time (Jane?) but rumour has it they are not on speaking-terms..... (?!)

The senior Aldridges had indeed been dispensed with in a car crash before Brian appeared. that was one reason for coming to Ambridge - he wanted to move away from the painful memories.

His sister is I believe Elizabeth. She didn't approve of Jenny (presumably as divorced, and previously unmarried, mother) hence them having little contact

His family before he married Jennifer....

Well, his first daughter was the result of a rather hurried liason with a cinema usherette on a wet Friday in Bradford but as neither of them exchanged names he has not, so far, found out about her.

The first child of which he is aware is another daughter, Jodie, whom he abandoned when he left his firat wife, Ursula, due to irreconcilable differences with his marriage vows. When he came into his parent's money he paid a lump sum settlement to her and has had no contact since.

The affairs he had before arriving in Ambridge, and indeed those since, have all been childless, including that with Shovehorn but as we have not had a second DNA test scenario, he doesn't realize that... yet.

I did initially guess Elizabeth but thought this would be an over-use of the name, (being JD's middle name too) - so put Jane as a similar sort of name....

sister Elizabeth Cartwright got up Jen's nose when she (silently) came to visit. She is married, with 2 children (older, left home) Clare and Robert. /None/ /of/ /them/ /are/ /ever/ /mentioned/. Even when brian goes shooting in Scotland, where Liz and her lecturer husband live!

Fascinating. Was it the Gaumont, the Odeon or the Ritz in Bradford?

Where was Brian at the time?

Had he been tampering with the brakes?

Brian was a nice inoffensive bloke in those days - as the 1980's wore on he evolved into the cuddly demon we know today....

Neither, Zebedee, it was a news theatre, he'd only got an hour!
