I think I must have missed an epi. I know Shula knows about Ryan but how does she connect Ryan to the stables and the consequent burgulary?

Yes, I was puzzled about that. Didn't Ryan have to go out the back way when Shula arrived (prompting queries about the layout of the Stables). Or did Alastair mention the first time when (I think) Ryan did not come in but just dropped by in the car when being taken somewhere else....?
Certainly when Ryan visited once he was out the back door sharpish when Shula was at the door and Alistair chose not to mention it (many thought it foolish). The Saint neither saw him or knew about it (as far as we were told).
It is possible he visited again, but I'm not sure that he would have met Shula, or that she knew about it.

I do find Shula's suspicions of Ryan implausible. She's never met him, doesn't even know he's visited the stables and doesn't really know much about him, except what Alistair's told her, and yet she's more and more convinced he did the break in.
Why pick on him? Surely there are far more realistic suspects closer at hand. Ed and Jazzer actually have form for that kind of thing.

So have 3 of the Horrobins.
I think it was Shula who said something along the lines of: why did they (the burglar) choose that particular property to burgle because there was a vet's surgery next door with people coming and going? Is there a surgery next to the house with surgeries being held regularly? I did not think so, just Alistair trotting in and out. Did I mishear Shula?

Shula did say this, and there's been a speculative thread in DTA that gives some more information:
I can't myself see why, if this is such a thriving practice, we haven't heard more of it - especially as Keri was mentioning just the other day that the SWs need venues around the village where characters can interact.
A dog-walking track would be good, should there be anyone except Lynda who actually took the dog for a walk,#. Poor Fly.

Missing Majorie...
Yes, there's a surgery. But how "thriving" ...?
And no, Shula hadn't known about Ryan going to the house or all the stuff Alistair had told Ryan, so why did she suspect R?

Er yes.
Poor writing?
Bad plotting?
They didn't think we'd notice?
It seems a reasonable suspicion to me (I mean, from Shula's point of view). She wouldn't be certain that Ryan was the only suspect, but surely it would cross her mind, knowing from first hand what a gambling addiction can do to people.
Surely she'd also suspect the Horrobins, the stable girls, the cathedral school run family ...

Oh, I say - the family who do the school run? Those nice well brought-up middle-class stable girls? Surely not. And not those rough diamonds, the Horrobins, either - truly learned their lesson, that family.
No, it has to that working-class oik played by the chap who can't act. Even blinkered Shugs can see that (she can see a fault in anything, and the good in nothing).
Wheel the guilty bar-steward in!
It seems a reasonable suspicion to meÂ
Come off it, Mr. Keri, what you are saying is based upon being either a listener to the show or with knowledge of the whole storyline. From the individual Shula character's point of view, Ryan is just someone who Al knows from GA and whom he has councelled outside of the group sessions. She would have no reason to believe that Ryan had either knowledge of Al's address or of Al's reletive prosperity compared to other GA goers. Listen again and you will hear that Shula has no reson to suspect Ryan quite as readily as she has.

So now we know the REAL reason why Shula is unable to leave the house between 10.00 and 11.15 on Sunday mornings....

"He's from outside Ambridge and I didn't know his parents. He must be a bad egg."
Is /that/ what you mean?
