Hi,
Is it possible to contact the Archers production team directly by email?
I've tried asking a question about the show using the generic Radio 4 email address but haven't had a reply.

I suppose you could always write to them at 'The Mail Box' Birmingham.
you could always try emailing keri.davies@bbc.co.uk - he's a scriptwriter as wellas the host of this board
he's a good egg and will probably be able to help.
by the way is your love a treat?
Just ask the question here (that's what Notes and Queries is for) and I'll do my best to answer it.
That waym we can share the love - or at least the information - with other listeners.
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Keri, I'm not sure how long you've been with The Archers - possibly not long enough to remember the early days? Which leads me on to my request.
It may not be widely known, outside his circle of close friends, but in those embryonic stages of the programme, Count Arthur Strong played a vet in The Archers. Arthur's career has obviously blossomed since then and he's shown himself to be a man of no little wit and talent. It does seem a shame, therefore, that The Archers haven't made use of Arthur in the intervening period and I am calling for his reinstatement to the show for, at the very least, a guest starring role.
From conversation with Arthur, I know that he doesn't feel restricted to his former persona as a vet and that he has some very interesting ideas as to how his return might be handled. (Incidentally, I do have Arthur's ideas in writing, so their can be no case of them being hijacked and used in his absence.)
Please note that I am a mere acquaintance of Arthur and there is no question of financial reward on my part.

I'm not sure 'Well Liked' but William R Strickland is the only name.
I am calling for his reinstatement to the showÂ
This ia a joke, isn't it?
Please tell me you are not serious and have wandered onto this board from 'Fantasy Archers'?

I think he could probably play Mr Pullen or possibly Titcombe. I'm warming to the idea already.
It seems that our cast records must be incomplete, as I can't find any reference to Count Arthur Strong in them.
I am a great admirer of the Count's work, however, and we'll certainly bear him in mind when we are casting parts in the future.

Or the innocent pedestrian mown down by L-driver, Nic. Two birds with one stone, methinks
Thank you Keri. It's good to know that Count Arthur Strong's talents are held high in your esteem and I look forward to his future participation. I can just see him propping up the bar at the Bull - perhaps he could be in a pub quiz team. That's what it's all about isn't it - being able to visualize the characters and scenes.
Incidentally, is there any chance of Tom promoting the benefits of eating raw sausages? I used to lodge with a chap who, after a night on the ale consuming eight or so pints, would frequently breakfast on raw sausage the following morning!

Could this be the Count himself? after a bit of free publicity on a site where he is both adored and villified at once.
(probably can't spell villified!)

He's not Count Arthur Strong, he's a very naughty boy.
The day Count Arthur Strong moves in is the day I move out.
Fact.
Incidentally, is there any chance of Tom promoting the benefits of eating raw sausages? I used to lodge with a chap who, after a night on the ale consuming eight pints or so, would regularly breakfast on raw sausage the following morning. From a Public Health point of view, perhaps not the best plan for TOM or his SAUSAGES!!! One of the main reason that raw pork should be avoided is the risk of infection with Trichinella Spiralis - a nematode worm, which can have rather nasty consequences if its larvae are ingested by humans...
But I can see Brian relishing the marketing possibilities:
"Tom's yer fella,
If you like Trichinella!" or
"Cook TOM'S SAUSAGE and brussels
For larvae in muscles!"
P.S. I would be happy to help out playing a veterinary meat inspector if the Count isn't available.
Well at least Tom's sausages are all meat. What about those vegetarian sausages that Tom doesn't make but others do - that Linda Ronstadt woman? No, it's not her - but anyway, they're just vegetables. What's the point of that? If you have those 'sausages' for your dinner I suspose you'd need to have some proper sausages as well just so's you could get some meat.
Dear-oh-dear...

I think you're in danger of confusing the vegetarian sausage concept with the meat and two potatoes concept here.

Count Arthur Strong [has] shown himself to be a man of no little wit and talent.Â
Wowie - I believe you may have "mistyped" (to paraphrase spin doctors everywhere) as the only possible or credible description of CAS is that he is a man of "no wit and little talent".

>Keri - I think you've been had....
You don't know me very well, then :o)
I've just noticed that there is a Penny Hassett already posting, I'm surprised I was allowed to enter, how do I change my nickname?
answered my own question
From the response to-date, it seems that Arthur was not wrong when he informed me of the groundswell of opinion in favour of his return. I'm sure that if Keri and the team contact Arthur to discuss his ideas, there could be exciting times in the offing for Ambridge!
In the meantime, perhaps Tom could introduce a range of organic nematode sausages.

Wowie - if you care to start a thread in The Bull about CAS (as periodically happens) you will find that the "groundswell of opinion" in favour of the witless unamusing old bore is balanced by those of us who consider otherwise.
I for one wonder why, with his voice and sense of humour, CAS has not pursued a career in mime.
If CAS was to make a guest appearance in TA, he could play someone like Mr Pullen, Higgs, or Titcombe: as silent characters they would be ideal!
Mustafa,
Thanks - it's great to know that you share my enthusiasm and appreciate just how well Arthur would integrate into the grand Archers scheme of things.
Is the Bull really the place to start such a thread, though? The Bull seems to be aimed at discussing events outside of Ambridge, whereas the aim here is to return Arthur to the fold, as it were.
Sadly, I'm not at liberty to diverge his ideas for the new role as he'd prefer to keep it from public constipation at the moment, although let me say it wouldn't exactly be a 'new' character.
I understand that the noble Count could be pursued to show us his Clarrie given a little encouragement.

Two things ... I LOATHE celebrity guest appearances in Ambridge, and would find even the arrival of Alan Rickman of Philip Glenister rather hard to accommodate.
But secondly and mainly .... the arrival of Count Arthur Strong would result in a 'tranny ex fenestram' incident chez Substances. Actually that wouldn't even be good enough, the radio may survive the trajectory and then be broadcasting the irritatingly unfunny pillock from the lawn.
I'd have to shoot it.
