What is the reason for the 3 minute delay?
Is it to stop people getting too agitated - a bit like counting to 10 and taking deep breaths when you get cross?
(Here we go again ....56..55...54...53...)

We were /told/ it was a temporary measure during a world cup some years back to stop the soccer boards from "flooding" the system, but it has never been revoked and the person who assured us that it was only temporary has left the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú.

I know that that's the received wisdom on the board, Peet, and it was certainly the reason, as far as I recall, for putting new posters in pre-mod.
But my recollection of the reason given for the compulsory three minute interval between posts was that it would reduce pressure on the servers by reducing the number of messages, single word messages in particular.

It has also been very effective in preventing the guerilla attcks from Trolls that we used to get.

Reggie, as I recall it that was the justification given some time /after/ the fact, when we asked why the "temporary" measure had not been lifted. It always smacked of hasty rationalisation to me.
I think you are mistaking cause and effect, Peet. As it worked well during the world cup it was decided that it would be a good technique to reduce server load generally outside that period.
I certainly seldom see a "server too busy" message nowadays.

Are you still on holiday Mr Keri? In which case your devotion to ML is noted. Or if not "welcome back" I hope that you had a nice time.
DH.
you're obviously not trying hard enough.......
Server too busy often stil occurs during the lunchtime period, 12.30 - 2.30.
Very often.
I had a message the other day that I had not seen before, can't remember exactly but something like 'Nodes are not available ...'. It was on this board, haven't a clue what it means.
>Are you still on holiday Mr Keri?
No, I'm back now.

Norma, any time something like that happens, post a note of it here: F94020?thread=418287&latest=1
Okey Doke Peet, I have bookmarked that. Though whether I will remember is another question
