Since I'm recently the proud owner of a state of the art miniscule ipod thingy I'm busily filling it up with all sorts of subscriptions to various programmes. Now that I know it has room enough to easily park several omnibuses in it I would like the Sunday omnibus edition please. Can't for the life of me find it on the podcast site - just the daily editions. I would just prefer to have it all together. Am I missing something vEry obvious here?

Yes, I guess - they don't podcast the omnibus!

aha! so I don't have to look for it any more then! I would have sworn that this was on offer at some point. My mistake then. Thanks Mabel, I'll just have to cope with bits of it being scattered about and me forgetting which bits I still want to maybe listen to then. Not such a big deal really, I just thought I'd go for the easier option if it was there.
hi all,
this is being looked at. more news soon.
best.

I would /love/ the omnibus to be available as a podcast - let us hope that someone all powerful can make it so. Also R4 dramas . I have always assumed there was a time constraint on pods as the longest I have found is 45 mins? Hope I'm wrong though.

I suspect, but don't know for certain, that the constraint may be on file size rather than time.

I have many 1-hour podcasts (well, 57 minutes or so) from the World Service Documentary Archive.
The dramas not being available as podcasts is for copyright reasons, not technical ones. A techie pal of mine has a tool which allows her to record via the i-player so she can put plays on cds to listen to in the car but she uses Linux and no-one has been able to tell me how to find a suitable tool to do this myself. (The only question I've ever asked in here which hasn't been answered!)

Use Linux. ;-D
(Seriously - the reason I haven't suggested anything is that I've been Windows-free for nearly two years now, so I wouldn't know where to start there.)

It is a little bit naughty, C-in-C, not sure we should really discuss it on a Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú MB.
I'll have a look and see if I can give you a subtle hint.

Will do if I can find what I'm thinking of...
I have found a bit of software on the internet that records the sound coming out of your speakers to a file that can be played back later.
This means you have to play the whole programme - not as quick as downloading a podcast. You choose the formate befor you start - works very well.
I cannot remember the name but found it by googling for free software - try using the ord speaker in the search.

I thought recording for own use was allowed? You have dvd recorders on tvs - why shouldn't it be possible to download some radio stuff for own use from the computer? It's possible to record plays using an old fashioned tape recorder, I don't really see what the big deal is...

googling for free softwareÌý
Only download software from trusted sources - Googling at random will take you to sites that try to infect your computer with nasty viruses and trojans.

No big deal, it's just the terms of use for the iPlayer. It's supposed to be a catch up service. I suppose the terms of use affect the royalties and so on.
We're not supposed to use these boards to violate blah, blah...
If I find can the tool I used before, you may well find details of it over at Peet's Place.
Stephen Fry had a lot to say on the subject last year (no change there then).

Almost certainly. How else are the guards expected to listen in...?
once you get your episodes, move them into a playlist and they will play on without you having to keep stoppy starting.... you will get a lot of dum de dum de dum de dum tho.....

Actually I think i-tunes has already solved any potential problems for me as it organises my podcasts in alphabetical order and then time order so they _should_ just follow on from one another... (Haven't actually tried it yet mind you.) If I instruct it to keep the last 6 uploads I should always have the last week on my ipod. Ach it's not wildly important - I survived for 6 weeks without any podloads at all when I was recently away for a while but now that I hAve the technology I like to try to use it in the best way possible (for me then).

There are some thoughts in Notes and Queries at Peet's Place. Nothing very straightforward, though, I think you might be better listening to the individual episodes as you say.

I've never got as far as Peet's Place... Always sounds to me like a slightly dubious den of iniquity where Things That Cannot Bear the Light of Day happen. And if it's not pretty straightforward I don't really do it as far as puter thingies go. Thanks for passing it on anyway though.

I've started to use a program called "get_iplayer" which was a bit tricky to use at first but now I can download relatively easily.
You may find this useful on the Beebotron site and he's provided some useful help information:
.
Once you have the program loaded on your computer (and it is remarkably easy to do) use Kronny's little helper to set up a little batch program to download your favourite TV and Radio programmes and listen in comfort at a time to suit.
I have been told that if you use a mac then google 'iplayer grabber' & use it to download items from iplayer for you to listen again for your own personal use & delete immediately afterwards. It would save you listening to Barwick Green 12 times.
If you can have individual episodes up as podcasts, then why not the omnibus? This cannot be a rights issue or there would not even be podcasts!
