Yesterday on The Boat switched my wee LW radio on at 11.15 my time (so that's an hour ahead of the UK and 15 minutes after the omnibus should have started). Only to find myself listening to Desert Island Discs. Very confused I was. Checked 2 clocks and my phone. Then asked Mr Clogs if it was in fact Sunday as we've been having a bit of an odd week here what with the day off on Thursday for Ascension Day and most folk having had Friday off too. After a while the dreaded cricket raised it's nasty head and I could put the wee radio back in my bag to take home with me. No major disaster - I'm used to the frequent cricket disturbances and can always catch up later via the computer. But usually the Omnibus is broadcast earlier and this is generally announced beforehand during the week. Now it was just omitted totally and I certainly didn't catch any announcements beforehand. Is this new policy?

    It is a new policy.

Desert Island Discs isn't available on Listen Again, and so can only be heard twice, once on Sunday, and the Friday repeat.

Whereas each single episode of The Archers is available on Listen Again, and as a podcast, and 5 out of six are broadcast twice. The Omnibus is also available on Listen Again.

Lots of chances to hear TA, not so many to hear DID. I imagine this is Controller Radio Four's reasoning, although he's a brave man in taking on the "I live in France, listen to four on long-wave, don't have a satellite, don't have the internet" brigade.

There are copyright issues with DID that militate against it being podcast or made available to LA.

the "I live in France, listen to four on long-wave, don't have a satellite, don't have the internet" brigade.
AKA the "I don't pay a licence fee but still think the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú should pander to my every whim brigade".

That's why I voiced my enquiry vEry carefully Mustafa smiley - winkeye It's no big deal really, and I can indeed LA whenever and even wherever I like now that I have an ipod. I just hadn't got this sorted out yet last Sunday and was curious as to why I'd apparantly missed the cricket announcements beforehand.

& Campbell, why I hoped my comment would not be misconstrued by you in any way, since I was not getting at you (or indeed anyone I can think of straight-off) on this MB!

Since someone told me that it is in fact the cricket broadcasts which apparantly justify the LW service I have been a lot more tolerant of the frequent disruptions it causes to the service. Ach, and within a few years we'll all have access to palmtops with dongles or whatever they're called and get instant service anywhere. Still think the best sound is from my big wooden Philips valve radio from 1953 though... (am I officially an old fart now? smiley - winkeye

I remember those, we had a radio like that, I don't know if it was a Philips or not. It had to be turned on well before Listem With Mother or Childrens' Hour to 'warm up'.
