The Who's Who page doesn't offer any help, so can someone let me know some background on Alistair's father Jim?
I gather he doesn't get on with Shula and is friends with Joe. Sounds like it should be good!
Thanks
All I can remember is that he's a professor of something, an atheist (which led to some friction with St. Shugs) and he got friendly with Heatherpet when they both stayed in Ambridge (I think.) And he was an impatient patient when confined to a wheelchair with a broken leg.
I think he was retired from being a professor. He had a very sharp wit and did strike up a friendship with Joe. However, I suspect Joe was friendly with him for what he could extract from him, as is his habit. Jim seemed to go out of his way to annoy Shula and was consequently great fun to have in Ambridge.
Jim is retired; his subject is history (possibly Ancient History?); and he did, indeed, click with Heather Pet. He, handily, lives within reasonable driving distance from Prudhoe - on the borders in Melrose.
He had the knack (oh joy) of winding up Shula (he'd got on well with Al's first wife and the choice of the Sainted One mystified him). Buying Dan a gun did not go down well at the Stables; nor did his atheism. Time for a return visit, methinks.
He was a professor at Edinburgh and I remember his subject being ancient history too, but I thought he lived near Jedburgh, which is even closer to Prudhoe than Melrose.
