Is Usha letting Blossom Hill out unfurnished? I seem to remember that they gave all Alan's furniture to charity.
So is Jim LLoyd bringing his own furniture from Scotland? Or is he going to buy furniture from Borchester/Felpersham?
Thank you.
reply to Mad.Curious.Cat
The letting agent told Usha that the property was more likely to be let unfurnished, IIRC

Think so - didn't Al mentioned he'd be expected to supervise the removal men
Thanks Rosie, that's what I thought too. So if the cottage is unfurnished, I wonder what solution Jim has found for this? Online furniture shopping? Moving his stuff from Scotland? Furniture-shopping in Borchester or Felpersham?
He may even have to stay at The Stables for a few nights, if he has no bed to sleep on in Blossom Hill!
<< didn't Al mentioned he'd be expected to supervise the removal men >>
Oh, did he? Thank you Mabel, I must have missed that.

Yes, I think when Shula was maundering on about Alistair spending 3 hours arranging Jim's removal, she said that (and the strange remark about going to the pub for lunch? Strange lives).)

That's probably because Jaxx isn't open on Sundays.
Definitely strange to bring /all/ your own furniture and contents for a six month let, although he may have omitted to say that he'd signed up for the second six months too.
But not as strange as a visiting academic from Vancouver taking an unfurnished property for six months although it is distinctly possible that Jim's eclectic furnishings would render his Scottish home a no-no for most prospective tenants.
Something smells fishy and it's not just Jim's home ... or his socks (to use an indisciplined flight of imagination, and certainly not fantasy).
<< when Shula was maundering on about Alistair spending 3 hours arranging Jim's removal >>
I should listen to that scene again. Thanks for this.

well, if he has [dunno] a 3 bed house then surely moving a bed, table, couple of chairs and 3 million books to a six month let is not out of the question. I've done it.

There doesn't seem to be any mention of what's needed coming south to Ambridge nd the rest going into store ... I suppose Prof Vancouver might camp amongst the rest of Prof Jim's stuff.
Nay, Posh, he seems to be moving lock, stock and very smoking barrel.
At the moment, it seems as though Jim will be moving back to Scotland on New Year's Eve or thereabouts ...Shula and Alistair missing their Sunday lunch will be nothing compared to what Christmas and New Year have to offer ... haha, BRING IT ON
Maybe Prof Vancouver has hired a container and his furniture (as we speak) is crossing the Atlantic. (Did he send it across Canada by rail or go by sea the Pacific route?).
I am not being an anorak. These things are important. (And all SLs are etc.etc.)

Wasn't Jim here for Christmas the other year?
Or am I confusing it with the Christmas-from-Hell-at-the Stables that was a big let down?

Yes, Christmas 2007. That's when he gave Daniel the air gun.
I don't think they specified *all* the furniture though did they?
Jim is a widower living alone, probably has far too much old stuff left over from when they were a couple with two children.

What're the chances that Prof Vancouver will turn out to be Debbie's ex? (I've momentarily forgotten his name, only that he went back to Vancouver after they split...)

No, I don't think they did but nor, if you want to nitpick on me yet again, did they specify *some* of the furniture either - either explicitly, nor implicitly by mentioning that some was going into store.
Given that we are in the realms of the notionally absurd, I chose to assume that Prof Jim would think in terms of moving and then delegate the practicalities and minutiae to his nominated victim/offspring.
Peet, I lurve the idea of Simon Thingy, Prof Vancouver, being the visiting academic ... great whimsy and by no means impossible in the ambri'universe
No, I didn't think any of it was going into store, I thought some of it would be going to Ambridge and some to stay in Melrose for the Vancouver chappie, Simon or whoever.

I thought some of it ...Â
Then you made a different assumption to me ... but at least we both agree that you /think/ your assumption is correct, whereas I don't assume that mine is.

What I found strange was
a) Shula not doing trad lunch
b) innability of Alistair to go to lunch for an hour
c) not being told what they had instead, since presumably they hadn't any food in the house, since planned lunch out

a) High summer
b) Good excuse to be out of earshot of moaning Shula (a Matt-like response). There was no real reason why the arrangements couldn't have been done by mobile rather than by landline, anyway - he could even have taken his notes/diary with him. (This ignores the absolute requirement that any drama be elevated to crisis status.)
c) More likely that they'd have whatever had been planned for tea/supper, or Monday's lunch. Or a bunch of unripe sour grapes.

Thanks.
I didn't know I'd assumed anything.
