miserable, narrow-minded, cheerless Sid has remained at the helm of the Bull for so long?
I cannot think of a village [or even market-town] pub pub which has survived under such miserable and arrogant behaviour.
Perhaps Lilian could get to see the "rougher" side of him, and use her shareholding prowess to get him to either:
loosen up [a lot]; or
move on.
I really would not want to show the loyalty to such a publican in real life as my nickname here shows to that hostelry.
Your ursine follower ...
Having just checked on "Who's Who", I see that Sid turned 65 in June, an event which seemed to go unnoticed (unlike Neil's curious 50th birthday meal at which he wasn't allowed to speak)
Why wasn't Lilian as the major sending him the "Thanks for everything but Goodbye" letter?
For "major" read "major shareholder"

Quite like the idea of Lilian as an older, far more raddled Major Barbara, banging her tambourine in the Borchester Market Square ...

She should drop matt forever, Marry Wayne, running the pub together, with a special flat or annex for Fallon.
No, no, no, no, no, Bear
Wayne must be sent packing pronto. He combines the tiresome whinginess of Joe Grundy with the personality of Auntie Cardboard. I never thought I'd say this but I'd rather have Bert back than have Wayne hanging around
Bear
Maybe I've been unlucky, but in my experience there are rather a lot of Sid clones running pubs.

Couldn't agree more, Bob.
Cheerless misanthropy seems to be a common personality trait in pub landlords.
