A debate rages, crashing across threads and through ML, disturbing the very fabric of existence:
NF is believed to have been sold by Matt in 2006 (canny chap, nearing the top of the property market), if memories & synopses, let alone the AA, are to be believed.
So ... why should dear Lillian be concerned about the boys in blue getting their mitts on it? Or, off air, did the sale of NF not go through?
Cheers,
MG
Didn't a young Phil live in NF many decades ago? perhaps the archive could deliver up a detailed chronology of NF residents?

Perhaps.
We heard Matt was trying to sell it (see ref 14th April 20060 but none to tenancy that I can reference.
Pre Susan, wasn't Nightingale Farm where Neil also lived with chirpy girlfriend Julie? (IIRC her name.)

I think he lived platonically there with Michele the sheep-shearer/GG waitress.
from the link;
" Under Mrs A’s ownership, she took in quite a few lodgers whom she steadfastly added pounds to their waistline. They included Nigel Pargetter, Ruth Pritchard [now Archer] and Doctor Richard Locke.
Her final tenant, Hayley Jordan moved in 1995 in order to aid her search for love with John Archer. After [her almost fiancé] John died, Hayley took comfort in a close friend of John’s, Roy Tucker and in 1999, Roy and his daughter, Phoebe Aldridge moved into Nightingale Farm."
Hi Rosie, I am thinking of a time before Missus A I believe. Maybe Julie(?) lived at Nightingale Farm and Neil didn't? Or the other way round?
I am sure she got on surprisingly well with old Mrs P, who could be a curmudgeonly old besom when it suited her.
Alma.
I just found this, so I did have her name right - but it doesn't say where Julie lived:
1983 - Neil Carter proposes to Julie, the barmaid at The Bull. They plan an autumn Register Office wedding, then Julie changes her mind after seeing Clarrie's wedding photographs and decides on a church wedding in June. She plans to wear a white jumpsuit. She accepts an invitation to the policeman's ball from Det Sgt Barry and realises she is not ready to settle down. The engagement is broken off and Julie leaves for London.

White would have made a nice change for Julie (who was a very lively character, I recall - a kind of early version of the old Hayley in temperament). I'm sure a shocking-pink jump-suit was her favoured wear for jogging.
On the Saddicts essay re. Nightingale Farm. Do we know who wrote this? If there's no author, they'll simply attribute the whole piece - Lady Izzy and all - to the fevered imagination of a Saddict Fantasist.

< I don't think Julie ever lived with Neil >
You may well be right, Rosie. But at least I remembered Julie's existence correctly. 8o)
According to that site I linked to above:
You were right about Michele:
"1976 - After Michele Brown returned from holiday with Shula, she took a job at Grey Gables as a waitress and moved into Nightingale Farm with Neil."
Neil and Susan rented NF from Hugo Barnaby. So this was well before Missus A’s time:
"1984 - Hugo Barnaby decides to sell Nightingale Farm and gives £4,000 to Neil and Susan Carter to leave."

IIRC, Keri said he was not shuffling off this mustard coil until Thursday 26th Nov.
And yes, Lillian was at Honeysuckle - she was renting it from Matt (I believe) until she moved in with Matt at the Dower House, and he sold the cottage to Adam & Ian.

IIRC Matt and Lil didn't live together officially until Matt's divorce was over so Lil could not be cited as the other woman.
Did one of them live at Honeysuckle and the other at Nightingale Farm? I seem to remember Lil doing a makeover on NF after Mrs A left. Please tell me I am not hallucinating! Or did Lil move to NF from HC?

Come on, Miss Tayler, here is your first ML challenge!
Thu, 26 Nov 2009 11:20 GMT, in reply to Almond_Aire in message 23
IIRC, the sequence was this.
1. When the new Lilian came to Ambridge for the 1st time she met Matt at a dinner party at Home Farm. They (i.e. Matt and Lilian) were obviously attracted to each other. Lilian had to go back to Guernsey/Jersey/wherever for tax reasons so that seemed to be that.
2. Matt bought several properties in Ambridge for renting including Nightingale Farm from Mrs A and Honeysuckle Cottage. He invited lots of people to a New Years's eve party at Nightingale Farm to meet his new (mystery) tenant and this turned out to be Lilian.
3. Matt (who was still married) was having an affair with Lilian and when Yvette (his wife) started to divorce him he moved into Honeysuckle Cottage which was then vacant.
4. Matt bought the Dower House "for Lilian" (although it is apparently owned by a trust) and moved in there with her.
5. We know that Matt was trying to sell Nightingale Farm but we never heard that the sale had gone through on air, so conceivably he didn't manage to sell it and continued to rent it out. OTOH there was a thread on here where MBers asked who the new owners were and Keri said he didn't know which implied there were new owners ... but perhaps Keri was just as much in the dark about this as the rest of us (i.e. he was just making it up, too).

My pleasure, Rosie. (I enjoy a visit to the Lowfield site.) Perhaps Tayler might like to add it to the audio time-line in atonement (Hint!). I bet Lilian wishes now that they'd kept those carpets. All this was entangled with the betting/horse-knobbling SLs. I assume the SWs were more excited about all that knobblers than thinking up new characters for NF.

But Someone lives at Nightingale Farm and why aren't they even referred to as silents? They could commute to London or Brum every day, but at least they'd be accounted for. Now that Jeck has moved into the Laurels, memories of Marjorie could be stirred and this could float out. People often mention old acquaintace and nearest and dearest too in conversation. Even though you can't always include this in the scripts because everything has to be relevant, you can still sneak things in in passing.
Lowfield is an interesting site, thank you.
It has one amusing little feature, not hilarious but interesting.
