Having lots of time on my hands because work plans have been disrupted by the weather, I've been studying the various maps available here.

If you travel northwards from the Green past Meadow Farm (and the track that goes over Lakey Hill) there is another right turn with lots of houses. The allotments are marked on the aerial view and also Bluebell Cottage (about which I can find no info).

    So

    1. who lives up there?

    2. where does this road go? Is it the road to Penny Hassett that appears on the Borsetshire map? The PH road appears to start near the village green but the only road off the green reaches a dead end just pat Home Fram (inter-active map)

I did warn you that this was very geeky

And I am aware that there is an Ambridge Map Fairy that places everything exactly where Vanessa would want them to be for the puproses of the nest SL irrespective of where they have been before

I think Martha Woodford used to live in Bluebell Cottage, didn't she?

The Archers Addicts Official Map of Ambridge (with the details of the dwellings) does not have Bluebell Cottage; but the map shows ---> Borchester on the road that goes past the Lodge, and ---> Lower Loxley, on the road past the other side of Bluebell Cottage

    Thanks for that

The Borsetshire map shows the Lower Loxley road joining what I called the Penny Hassett road actually at PH. So I thinks that this must be the road I am talking about.

The Book of the Archers doesn't say where the Woodfords lived nor does it have an entry for Bluebell Cottage.

TAE has nothing about Bluebell Cottage, but I checked it was Martha who lived there briefly.

I've had a look at the Addicts' map but that is no more illuminating as to who lives along this stretch of road. Clearly they must be exceptionally silent characters

But the Addicts' map is strange elsewhere. The road past Brookfield seems to run in a west-east direction past Sawyer's Farm and Bridge Farm. Tony and Pat could wave from their back window to Home Farm which is close by.

The interactive map shows the road forking with Sawyers up one fork (a dead end) and Brdige Farm on the other which I assume is the Loxley Barrett road

    (Geekier and geekier)

Mr Snowy, if it's one thing that I miss about not being able to see, it's being able to look at maps. So I'm afraid I can't help here.

but, yes,, Rosie, Martha and Joby lived in Bluebell Cottage before Martha moved to April Cottage.

I'm afraid I've got no idea where I obtained this info.

    With best wishes,

    Keith

Good evening, Keith. I was just about to go to bed, but I wonder if it might be worth suggesting to the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú marketing people that a raised 3-D map of Ambridge could be of interest to someone like yourself? It could be made in lightweight but strong plastic, for example, and be marketed for Christmas. Perhaps the Archers Addicts site would be a good place to test the waters, as they seem to sell Ambridge merchandise?

    Happy New Year, anyway,

    Elnora

    Hello Elnora,

Thank you so much for your reply.

What a wonderful idea. And, total addict that I am, I'd never even thought of a raised map of Ambridge.

But, yes, I'll pursue this, possibly with Hedli, as she very kindly sends blind addicts Village Voice etc by e-mail.

Oh, I do enjoy visiting this board. I should come here more often!

And, finally, Happy New Year to you, too, and everyone else.

    With very best wishes,

    Keith

    Now here's another geeky question.

The aerial "photo" shows a road with substantial-looking houses which emerges between the shop and the river. This is not on any other map that I have.

I'd assumed it was Grange Spinney but other maps and descriptions place that firmly to the south of the river (emerging between St Stephens and the track to Grange Farm)

Does anyone know what this development is?

It doesn't appear on the 1986 David and Charles Ambridge Map, or the Archers Addicts Official Map of Ambridge, or in The archers The New Official Companion; but is on the Ambridge Panorama, and the Magnetic North map

Thanks, Rosie. I'm tending to the view that someone has put Grange Spinney in the wrong place

You do mean the Interactive Map, don't you?

Since it first went up, it has had Grange Spinney on twice, once above Green Farm and The Dower House, once in the place where it really is. The other road and houses have been there some time, though.

I realised a few years ago that the various maps don't agree with each other. At one time the river ran across the green, but now the river it separates the church from the main part of the village. Also, fairly recently, David enquired if Pip had taken the "Felpersham Road." This road is shown on the village map, but on the county map there appears to be no direct route to Felpersham, just a series of lanes or roads which eventually join either the A1829 or the A9110 into Felpersham.
