I've looked at FAQ(honestly) and can't work out what 'bumping' is on a message. If it is actually on FAQ and I just havn;'t read it properly - apologies
It may be in the part of the FAQs that explains abbreviations but that hasn't worked for ages.
Someone once told me that it means Bring Up My Post but I'm too lazy to check if that's correct. Anyway - as you will know - posting on a thread means that it goes up to the top of the mayo (list of threads on a page). If you haven't anything to say but want a thread to go to the top - to get noticed - then posting the word 'bump' will show what you are doing ('bumping' a thread).
It is considered jolly bad form unless it is an information thread (or a cry for help in The Bull or TVH) - but that's never stopped anybody!
Hope that is clear (it certainly doesn't look very clear). LOL.
Clearish - I just won't do it if it is slightly bad form. Would HATE to upset folks in ML. Thanks for the info
You're welcome.
(I don't think anyone in ML will show upset although some might 'tsk' under their breath. But elsewhere on the web you might get told off.)

Hello flea and Aggers - "bump" is listed in the FAQs that are specific to this message board - here
There might be other info there that you'll find useful

Ooh thanks Tayler. I clicked on 'more FAQs' at the bottom of the page and got an Error message so I gave up!

Apologies for the broken link, flea - but thanks for flagging it up!
Tayler
If you click on 'General message board abbreviations and jargon' under 'Abbreviations and special terms' in the menu on the main FAQ page, you'll find a definition of 'bump'. I'd never noticed the 'More FAQs' link at the foot of the page - don't know why it's broken because the URL link seems to be the same as in the links that do work. Most odd.

No harm in asking if you can't find something, don't worry about it.
