    Tayler,

I thought the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú had not authorised Google to index posts made to the message board? Because if I google my board name, my discussions list comes up via the Ouch board. Has there been a change to the t&cs or is this not authorised, and if the latter, how quickly can something be done about it?

It really doesn't make me happy knowing what I post in here is now available for all via google.

I second that, E Yore; and it makes a nonsense of being able to delete your discussions. (I know they hang around nevertheless, but that's not the same as having them all handy in one place.) smiley - sadface

    E. Yore this is raised every now and again. h2g2 has always come up on google, thus personal spaces, journals, friends lists, conversations can be traced ever since the MBs migrated to DNA with a single sign-on. More recently L Badger picked up a spybot(?) site which appears to monitor Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú sites. This thread last October was addressed to Keri but has never been answered, afaik:

Thanks, Petal. Tayler has posted on that thread a few months ago saying she'll get back to us but ...

I hadn't realised that hootoo came up as in the past googling my board name brought up loads of Disney-related sites (none to AA Milne, btw) but this time there is my hootoo page with my discussions list and more peculiarly, the Ouch board. Googling another MLer's name brought up various sites that had indexed all her discussions even though her own discussion list is now virtually empty.

I'm afraid that if the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú can no longer guarantee (or no longer wishes to) a measure of safety by the non-indexing of the mbs, then at the very least people should be informed more widely. The more unique one's board name, the easier it is for outsiders to find one's discussions.

If you follow this thread from a week-and-a-half ago, all should become a little clearer: F77636?thread=7434638&skip=126&show=200

In short, the non-indexing of threads by other sites was introduced as a "temporary measure" in December 2002, and has only just been lifted. Which gives you a sense of perspective over "the Flea"!...

    Hi E Yore
I'm just following up on this with the Communities team. On your specific point about safety:

I'm afraid that if the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú can no longer guarantee (or no longer wishes to) a measure of safety by the non-indexing of the mbs, then at the very least people should be informed more widely. The more unique one's board name, the easier it is for outsiders to find one's discussions.
The original purpose for non indexing was to minimise the extra load which this activity caused on the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú's web servers. The content on this message board has always been public and anyone posting here should always be conscious of the fact that they are not speaking to a few online friends but making a public statement which could be read by a potential audience of thousands. We advise all users never to any reveal personal contact information (such as email, phone number or exact geographical location) either for themselves or for others.
There's more info on privacy here:
