Has anyone *on air* specified where in NZ the Gemmells live or mentioned that it's winter there?
Don't know about the Gemmells' precise location in NZ but Jolene mentioned that it's winter there last night (Sunday) when Fallon asked her why she wanted to pack waterproofs.

Hello LJG
It hasn't been stated on air where in New Zealand Lucy lives.
Tayler
Another Lucy question. Were Sid & Polly living in the flat above the shop when Lucy was born, and for the first few years of her life?
(Lucy was born in December 1971 and they were moving into a cottage in 1976.)
As I remember it, they bought Rose Cottage as an investment, to retire to, and always wanted to rent it out.
Again, I seem to remember Lucy was born at The Bull.

Sid and Polly moved into The Bull a year after Lucy was born.
They did buy Rose Cottage as an investment in 1976 and spent months rennovating it.
Tayler
Where did they get the cash to buy and do up a second home?
Not exactly Puss and Tiger cash-wise.
bob
Poll Doll's mum died and left them money, I thnk.
It was while they were managing the pub for Peggy Archer, wasn't it, before Sid and Kathy bought it.
So Lucy was a baby in that flat, where Helen is now?
No, Chris and Neil have remodelled the flat.

I think Rose Cottage was sold after Polly died. I cant quite remember what Sid did with the money.
Isn't this what he used to buy or increase his share in the bull?
Polly won a Premium Bond prize and they used this to help buy Rose Cottage.
Can't remember whether Sid sold Rose Cottage or not. But if he did it wasn't immediately after Polly died because Kathy was the tenant for quite a while before they married.
Rose Cottage was sold to finance Sid and Kathy's part purchase of The Bull with Guy Pemberton.
Yes, Kathy was a tenant of Rose Cottage when she first came to teach in Borchester. That's how she met Sid.
Well, my memory is a bit hazy, and I'm probably wrong, but I thought she was Lucy's teacher who helped with Lucy's probs, and that's why he let Rose Cottage to Miss Holland?
Kathy was Lucy's teacher and Sid's tenant. I think the two things more or less happened together...Kathy came to teach at Borchester Grammar and needed a cottage to rent.
Sorry, I misunderstood - I thought you were saying she had the tenancy before she became Lucy's teacher, but I thought she only got the tenancy because she'd become aquainted through Lucy.
Sorry.
I had an idea it was South Island, sheep farming, but don't know why Kathy just booked flights to Auckland. If anyone knows, let me know cos then I could go to the funeral (it's winter here in Wellington, NZ!)

Wasn't Polly's maiden name Field or Meadows or something like that and her father a pyromaniac of some sort?
(It might have been Tunnel).
Or have I just been listening tooooo long?

Polly's maiden name was Mead. Her father was indeed exposed as a pyromaniac. From The Archers Encylopaedia it says that Polly and Sid broke up after their engagement but got back together "when [Sid] supported her after it was discovered that her father, who was mentally ill, had been setting fires all around the disctrict and would have to be committed."

So who lives i Rose Cottage now, and where is it?
I have not heard any mention of this for years.

Rose Cottage was in Penny Hassett - think it was sold many moons ago to raise money to purchase some bit or other of the Bull
Well, misadventure3, looks like we both missed the funeral. Maybe if we had been there Jolene wouldn't have been quite so upset? I'm glad she's not trying to bring the ashes INTO NZ. I imagine MAF could get quite upset about that!
