Please could someone (Matt possibly?) remind me what Alice is studying at university? I vaguely recall it being some sort of engineering, but I can't remember the details. Thanks.

BSc in Aeronautical Engineering, at Southampton, which will hopefull NOT be followed by a Masters from the University of Life in "how to bring up a young family while living in the pocket & shadow of your wealthy family in a very insular and inter-related enclave".
Thanks. Sorry to be a pedant but just checked and Southampton don't offer a BSc in Aeronautical engineering, so it must be a BEng. Does anyone know why she chose to do a BEng rather than an MEng? I thought just about everyone did an MEng nowadays, and I also thought she was supposed to be very bright. The MEng is a 4 year course, giving the opportunity to spend 6 months abroad. The BEng is three year.
1. She is doing a general/ mechanical engineering degree, not aeronautical
2. If her aim is to become a chartered engineer then 3 year BEng + 1 year MSc degree is a valid alternative to a MEng.

Thanks for the replies to flameofthewest's question. I don't know if I could have answered that one myself!
Matt
I thought Mr Keri said she was doing Civil Engineering,, not Mechanical Engineering?

No, he didn't (although it is not the first time that has been suggested on here).

Mike, that was according to a Wiki (yes, I know, about as reliable a source as a politician at an expenses enquiry) feature on Southampton's famous students & alumni, real & fictional, detailing that Alice is doing aeronautical eng., something they can only have got from the prog., I would think.
Now, if Alice wants to do read something else, that's fine with me, but surely she can tell her tutors to update their brag sheets?

I'll put this one to the SWs to see if I can get a definitive answer for you.
Matt
Alice is known to be studying engineering and applied to the RAF (unsuccessfully) - not hard to see why some people might have jumped to the conclusion that she was going to do aeronautical engineering.
I am pinning my hopes on the sudden arrival on the Borsetshire map of an engineering firm in the Felpersham area that will take Alice on as a graduate trainee in September 2011. Or should she apply to the world-renowned Dept of Engineering at Felpersham University to do an MSc in 2011-12 first?

If by 'a Wiki' you mean Wikipedia, it's quite likely that a reader of this board has added that information about Alice studying Aeronautical Engineering, which they could easily have got from posts on this board rather than from the programme directly. Anyone can add information to Wikipedia (that's what the 'wiki' part of the name entails) - I've done it myself. The fact that the information appears there doesn't mean it came from a reliable source, such as the programme.
I can't remember what her degree is, so can't help the OP. Am generally happy to trust Mike's memory in these matters.

Leaps, if you're bored, could you add Vickoi Tucker to that Wikipedia "Characters" page? I would do it myself, but I don;'t think I could do her justice.

Alice is studying for a BEng degree. The specific course details have never been given on air though I can confirm that it's not civil engineering.
Hope that's helpful.

Thanks, Matt - your assistance/effort is appreciated.
So, could be aeronautical eng, could be MechEng, could be GenEng ... who knows, apart from the young Mrs Carter & her tutors - and the latter won't say much, I bet!
Perhaps the SWs could 'engineer' a mention of the specific course so that it can be graven upon the stones on which TA's annals are carved for posterity?
When did we hear that Alice was unsuccessful in her application to the RAF? I missed that one.
That would be about 2 years ago just before she started at Southampton annefinch.
I can vaguely remember her doing lots of running to get fit and boning up on aircraft identification in preparation for the tests/interviews.

She was applying for a special bursary, which would pay for her uni fees wasn't it? Not to join the air force.

I thought she had to get accepted to join to be eligible for the bursary?
My understanding is that a condition of receiving the bursary is signing up for a minimum period of service after University.

I think that's right - or you have to pay back the bursary.
