I was wondering whether the omnibus edition was edited at all, so I did a search and found a thread which was a few years old saying that it wasn't edited.
Is this still the case? 6 x 14 minutes is 84 minutes, but the omnibus is usually about 74 minutes.

I seem to remember a discussion some time ago when it was said the week night edition starts at 19.02 - finishes at 19.15. What with the time allowed for the theme music, it works out that the Sunday omnibus runs for the same amount of time.

Each weekday episode is 12 1/2 mins. apparently (without the theme music at beginning and end.)

So six of these equals 75 mins.

Each programme is actually about 12 minutes long and so, 6 x 12 being 72, it fits nicely into a 75 minute slot without editing these days.

Thank-you for your replies. I was looking at the podcast lengths but I suppose the 'thank-you for listening to...' and the theme music is still going to take up a couple of minutes on each episode, isn't it.

I am just so keen not to miss a minute of available Archers! I listen to the podcast on my way to work each day, but i alway run out on Thursday.

Now the equation is 6 x 12.5 = 75 but in the old days 5 x 15 = 75 and the omnibus was 60 minutes so there used to be scenes omitted from the omnibus every week (known as the omnicuts).

These days sometimes do minor edits which means that (usually) one speech is added/ changed/ omitted. Mr K denied this once upon a time but a listener recorded the evidence and showed that there are sometimes minor differences. (This was before the days of podcasts or even Listen Again).

Very occasionally they used to fade scenes out later on the podcast, for the purposes of pace/timing, and so you'd hear a few more words on a Sunday than you did during the week. Fading out the ends of scenes seems to have gone out of fashion now, though.

(I remember one of Bert's poems, where during the week you didn't hear the rhyme, but on the Sunday you did...)

and in the olden days, you used to have a ramblling introduction to the omnibus by Tom Forrest, with some attempt to point out what was happening in the farming calendar at the moment, and linking it to the goings on in the village. And if I recall correctly, the omnibus only lasted an hour, and there was some substantial pruning.

In those olden days, I used to listen on a Sunday and in the week. I could actually remember which scenes had been cut out for the Sunday broadcast. I couldn't do that now, mainly due to the fact that I don't listen in the week and none are cut out. But also, I don't listen so closely as I used to, or, have such a good memory!
