but how about the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú?
I would have thought that the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú should be interested in promoting the correct use of the English language, rather than reinforcing a misconception?
From the synopsis, 13 Oct
"Will and Brian discuss the peregrine falcons at St Stephens. Will’s worried about the arrival of another bird of prey, and the affect on grey partridge numbers."
EFFECT, not affect - unless someone wants to correct me, if so, I am eager to learn.

very nice Wilber, but I actually want the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú to be a bit of a beacon here (as well as letting off steam of course)
And WHAT happened to the apostrophe I am certain I inserted into the title of this thread I ask. harumph.

I expect the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú, and the typical Archers' calibre of poster on here, to spell correctly. For those who find it difficult, there is the common courtesy of using dictionaries.c/lx

I find that a very odd notion, that it is somehow "discourteous" of a poster not to check spellings in a dictionary.
As long as the meaning is clear, it really isn't that important. It's a messageboard which people use for relaxation and social interaction, not a job application-form.

Maybe I am a bit of a pedant but I do still think that good grammar and spelling are important (not for us posters, perhaps, but for the official stuff which can and should be checked).
I don't know how long the barriers will hold, though, with text-speak etc. being so prevalent.

I don't think you're a pedant, bob, for thinking that official stuff should be grammatically correct and spelled (spelt?) correctly.
It was the thing about it being "discourteous" of posters in here to make mistakes that I was disagreeing with.
(Excuse me for ending a sentence with a preposition! )

How about grammar? That doesn't sound right to me.

You are right: an effect (noun) to affect (verb)
Adjective: affected . EG he put on an affected voice.

There is also affect as a noun, and effect as a verb.
Effected; affective, effective, and so on.

Yes, of course; but don't fall into the trap of thinking that you cannot begin or end a sentence with a preposition: up with that I will not put, so to speak. Sometime it is effective to do so.

You have a valid point al.
I particularly dislike the use of 'impact' to mean effect.
