Felpersham

  Can anyone tell me if Felpersham is the equivalent of anywhere in real life or is it completely fictional? They mention Birmingham from time to time.

  Well yes it is completely fictional, it's in the Archers, but I think it's supposed to be roughly equivalent to Worcester.

  I've always imagined Felpersham as Worcester and Borchester as Evesham, for comparison. Googling reveals that Worcester even has a university, which I must say I never knew!
  
  No agriculture on their course list, but you can do a BSc in cricket coaching, it seems.

  Fepersham 'is' Worcester I think - cathedral, cathedral school, etc. Yes , Worcester does have a uni now -correct title (as shown on road signs in Worcester itself) University College. In previous incarnations this establishment was known as Worcester College of Higher Education and, earlier still, Worcester College of Education. Well known as one of the leading training colleges for teachers. Began teaching other subjects from around 1977. Borchester is, as far as I know, based on Pershore ( a pretty town on the River Avon) rather than Evesham.

  My statement in message 2, that Felpersham is roughly equivalent to Worcester, was repeating something I remember Mr Keri saying when a similar question was raised some years ago. I think I also remember him saying that Borchester was roughly based on Pershore or Evsham (can't remember wHich).
  
  I'd be interested to know what evidence Phyllis' obviously authoratative opinion is based on.
  
  Maybe Tayler could step in and settle the matter.

  I'm afraid you're working on a false premise. Ambridge is not based on any one village. The Old Bull in Inkberrow is the model for The Bull in Ambridge, and Hanbury church the model for St Stephens. Both villages have used this to make claims to be the "real" Ambridge.
  
  Borchester was once considered to be a market town like Pershore, but is probably a bit bigger than Pershore now. Felpersham is a cathedral city, so could be something like Worcester.
