On the new site I type them in, they are there in preview, but disappear when I post. What am I doing wrong?
My browser is Safari, which doesn't provide Italic, but I've always just pasted quotes in and then added <>. Which bit of this is wrong?

I think it's because if you put something inbetween <> the system thinks you might be trying to slip in a surreptitious smiley and that isn't allowed.

Quotes can still be done in the classic way:

<QUOTE>paste the bit you want to quote</Quote>

Except use lower case qs.

HTH
Reggie, thanks for this. Being a complete dimbo about this sort of thing, I'm not sure I understand it, but I'll give it a try.

sidney, I don't know what my answer looks like to you but it's complete mumbo jumbo to me. Possibly because I used the forbidden symbols. Looked okay immediately after I posted it.

Very odd, it's okay again now.
It was like it is now, but at one stage it appeared in a much simpler form, basically saying use diagonal bracket, quote, close diagonal bracket, then paste quote then use diagonal bracket, stroke, quote, close diagonal bracket. Which I'll try. I don't know why your message appears sometimes with all these strange letters and numbers and sometimes without.
Must be the dreadful smileys taking their revenge.
Don't mind me, I'm just testing
Which I'll tryÂ

Hi sidney rabbit
Some people use the angled brackets the wrong way round as a quick alternative to quoting - ie
> like this <
Otherwise use angled bracket quote angled bracket and then the quote, and then angled bracket \ quote angled bracket
Using the symbols for brackets and no spaces!
Hope that makes sense!
Tayler

Some time ago I copied this from Fee:
You put
at the beginning of the chunk you want to quote and Â
at the end - but in each case you use lower case not capitals (if I did that here it would give me a box I don't want instead of the instructions) - then preview to check that it has worked - it's very easy to forget one element and end up with the box in the wrong place.
So I'll try it: (I've checked in preview and it works)
Did you ever have to make up your mind? Say yes to one, leave the other behind. It's not often easy, it's not often kind .... Did you ever have to make up your mind.Â
Thanks, Tayler, I'll try that.

Oh!! Part of what I wrote has gorn! It makes no sense at all now. But, it is there in preview ... so if you click on my post as if you are going to reply you should be able to see what I wrote.
Good luck

Some of what you wrote has gone because, as noted above, anything typed between pointed brackets disappears on the new board.
The easiest way I've found of showing how to quote is to link to the explanation given in the FAQs - in the list on the left.
