I had no radio or internet access to radio 4 for over two years. Returned recently to find all these shocks - Helen's donor pregnancy, Syd dead (at last) Ed and Em together and happy as I always hoped - and Phil! Is it possible to find the synopses for that period? If not, please could someone tell me how he died, whether it was a shock and was it because Norman Painting had died?

    Hello Llo.

Yes, the synopses are all there in the "Catch Up" chapter. Phil died on 12th Feb. this year: here is the synopsis:

It was indeed because Norman Painting had died although Phil was kept as a "silent " for something like six months before they did the did: not as I would have liked, dramatically while playing the organ in St Stephens, but simply faling asleep in his armchair with The Dream of Gerontius playing.

Alternative (and often, but not always, more in-depth & complete) summaries are available via Lowfield - select "archived summaries" for older episodes, by year:

Gosh, you were quick to reply! Thank you both - now I can indulge in two years-worth all at once - a virtual binge..
