I would like to know if there is a way of listening to all of the old Archers recordings and yes I do mean from the very beginning.
It would be fab the 60years or even highlights to be available.
Any chance of this?
Or if it already exists how do I find it?
Many thanks

There are some audio CDs available with old episodes, and a Vintage Archers CD coming out next week!
And thanks PhyllisBriam for the offer of your old cassettes! Do you ever listen to them? What are the storylines? : )

PhillisB, these were my favourite years; and I'd be first in the pre-order queue. Would love to hear the wine-bar days again!
Unfortunately no, the episodes don't exist. There were tapes in the old days but they were wiped.Â
If I understand correctly, that was a problem from the late '60s to the mid '70s (ish...) when they started using audio tape and needed to reuse it for financial reasons. But they *should* have everything before that, as it was cut to disc for transmission and so couldn't be reused. (Just as long as it wasn't chucked...)

I'll have a ferret in my Archers books!Â
Don't let Joe Grundy near it.
We were told a few years ago that they found a (more or less) complete set of the 1960s in a cupboard which were intended for being broadcast overseas. They made the "Decade of Love" programme from these. We have never had the definitive story on which ones were wiped and for which years recordings exist. Could we be told this?

Hi Mike
I'll see what I can find out. (I remember hearing some of the Decade of Love recordings on the radio a while back and they were great - hearing Jennifer young and pregnant - it was quite Wednesday Play-ish!)

There were two sets of the highly entertaining 'Decade of Love' tapes on the old website, but I can't find them on this one.
I'd be very grateful if you could ask about these, Tayler, while you're on the case. They could be sitting somewhere obvious that I can't see; but I used to recommend them!
Thank you,
Elnora x

Hi Tayler, Thanks for such a speedy response- and on a Sunday night too! It sounds ungrateful, but I'm not sure these are the ones. I can see only more modern-looking episodes to buy, on cd or download. The others were 1960s, free download from the site. On the other hand, I've been rushing around today, so am probably looking at the wrong part of the screen and should go have an early night and another go tomorrow. :

Ahh - then my mistake. I'll see if I can find out whether they're on the site somewhere.

Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Radio 7 did broadcast Westway from the start, that would be the ideal place to also do 60 years of The archers, wouldn't it?

Hi PhillisBiram
What great clips! I did enjoy Doris having to "sit down" after bidding a whopping £36 at an auction.
There are a few clips dotted through the Timeline, starting in the 50s with The Archers real budget statement!

It would, but the reason we've always been given for it not happening is that it would be too difficult to find out who has the right to receive repeat fees for very old programmes.
I think that's probably reasonable but if they can do Westway, which must be ten or fifteen years old by now, I don't see why they can't do it with episodes of TA that old.
Repeat fees, oh, yes.
How many of the original actors are still around? There were far fewer characters at the start, surely? So they could do several years knowing Dan, Doris, Simon Farmhand et al do not need fees?
