the cast and the production team look at the message boards to guage the reaction of the listening public?
I wondered becaus I'm stunned by the negativity and, indeed, venom, of the majority of the messages and I think that most of the people like me, who have criticisms but by-and-large think the programme is sometimes well-written and usually very well acted, and who don't HATE any characters (well, perhpas one or two) are put off and don't post on the message board. If the team does judge by the message board, they'd be terribly discouraged.

I agree and I think and hope if they do thay take little notice. Otherwise they'd get a completely distorted view of their audience's reaction to the programme.

If they have any sense they don't read them - though Keri is a scriptwriter and was the Host of the Board so must have read many of the threads.
I apologise for following you to this thread, Llo from the thread about finding the burglary funny.
But I agreed with your thoughts on that thread.
I found that reading some of DTA was distorting my enjoyment of the programme and I now try to leave it a good hour or so after listening before going to the Board to see the comments that have been made.
By that time, I can usually take it with a pinch of salt or just can't be bothered to make my (usually minority) comment!

Please don't apologise. It's a relief that there are some people who don't want to spend the evening throwing stones.
Yes, it does start to spoil one's enjoyment of the programme. It's a pity that the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú's own message board should have be *avoided* by listeners because it's so negative!
You are free to post any views you like on the MB about the programme, but I suggest you desist from criticising other posters as that creates personal arguments and creates an unwelcoming atmosphere.

Umm, Mike, I think you must have posted this in the wrong thread by mistake, as it doesn't appear to be a reply to me or to anything I've posted here, nor to either of the two others in this thread.
I think you must have got the wrong person, as well as the wrong thread, but no doubt you'll sort that out.
Sorry, Llo__, it must be a case of mistaken identity then because I was under the impression that you are the person who has been laying into other posters in DTA along the lines of:
>I think you're all crazy - all of you who make thread after thread and page after page of sneering, jeering, hating and venom. It's wierd. Why on earth do you do it?<
(#23 on the Laughing thread)
The point is that this place is a forum for discussion. You have to accept that other posters are going to post things that you disagree with. Just post your views on the programme, don't post general attacks on other groups of posters (whose views you happen to disagree with).
Mike, you *know* it's bad form to pick up bits of other threads or posts and carry them over to other threads *and* that the previous board host had asked people not to do it *and* it's obvious that the boards would be chaos if everyone did it. Please, I have discussed this to death in that thread, as have others, and I don't know why on earth you haven't addressed me there. Plenty of us have posted in the same vein as I, plenty of others have answered, so why didn't you write these posts there? I can guess why and I don't like it. I don't like it and you know that it's absolutely Not Done on these or any other boards.
This is the Notes and Queries section and I think it's the place to come if one wants to ask questions of the production team or MB host. My query was addressed to Tayler Cresswell and the my subsequent remark was, too, not because I want to start a discussion, but as a message to the Archers team to say that they shouldn't necessarily think the MB is representative.
If you want Tayler to read that other thread, I suggest you ask her - so much simpler. If not, then I don't know why you posted here.

Sorry, you are going to have to spell it out, because I don't have a clue what you are going on about.

Do the script-writers, the cast and the production team look at the message boards to guage the reaction of the listening public?Â
Hi Llo___
Some do read the boards. Some don't. Scriptwriter Keri Davies certainly looks in from time to time and also contributes here.
The listening public consists of the people on this message board as well as millions more! The team are certainly interested in audience feedback - from here and elsewhere and I keep them informed on what's being said about the programme online - this includes the message board and other places online (Twitter, blogs, Facebook etc).
There is a good deal of passion here and many who feel strongly about the storylines. I'd say there were as many views here as there are posters. It's negative, positive and all the colours in between.
I hope this goes some way to answer your question!

I'm with you, Llo.
I find it hard to believe that the views expressed here are a majority view.
>It's a relief that there are some people who don't want to spend the evening throwing stones.<
Quite.
>Yes, it does start to spoil one's enjoyment of the programme. It's a pity that the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú's own message board should have be *avoided* by listeners because it's so negative! <
Funnily enough, I looked at the threads in DTA this evening and decided that even the titles of many of the threads were enough to spoil my enjoyment.
Certainly if I were a scriptwriter for TA (and I have written plays which have been performed) I could be very disheartened.
I have had my say elsethread (and am still getting flack from that) and hope that as a result we are able to have more positive threads in DTA. It's up to us to start them and ignore those who try to disrupt them.
Just because you address something to one person, does not mean that others are barred from entering a discussion on this Public Message Board.
If you wanted to a dress the host, her email address is in the public domain, and it certainly seemed you started this thread to make trouble.
I think the SWs and production team are well aware that DTA represents a very narrow strand of popular opinion - I can remember Keri saying so in the past.
I gather there are other Archers websites (tho I have never looked so I can't swear to it) where more balanced views prevail, and no doubt the SWs look in there as well.
The Archers listeners I know who don't use these boards are always astonished when I tell them about the views expressed in DTA. Most of them quite like Ruth and Shula, see Eddie as a lovable rogue etc.
Although it was DTA that introduced me to ML, I very rarely go there any more because I find the narrow range of views very tedious.

Hi stolenkisses
I've spotted quite a few new posters here lately and we want to make sure discussions here on the message board are inclusive and open to all, so I guess it's about trying to attract a diverse membership here.
There are plenty of places to discuss the programme and as you say, people tend to gravitate to spaces that they're comfortable with - from Twitter and Facebook to message boards and blogs. Some have been set up by the Beeb, others are independent. There's a list on the Discuss page : )

I'm sorry, I hadn't noticed there'd been other replies - wasn't ignoring you on purpose. It's a bit late now, but no, I assure you that I didn't start this to make trouble and even now you've said it I don't understand how it could make trouble. I'm sorry if I've upset you, but I posted here because it was a Query addressed to the host, with a brief Note to explain why I asked. The host answered and that was all I was looking for. I don't think an email would have been appropriate - she'd be snowed under. Don't woryy, promise I have no desire to upset anyone or anything, at least not around here.
