Does anybody remember (late 50s/early 60s) some Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú presenter (on Children's Hour maybe) putting words to the Archers' signature tune? It began: 'Mr Archer's making hay/Walter's making trouble' and included 'John Tragoran fell down a warren/And broke a bone in his arm'.

I know it's daft, but this has been bothering me for some time now as I can't rmember qny more of it!!!

I recall that in the mid-1990s a programme was recorded at Hanbury Village Hall in Worcestershire entitled The Archers Pro-Am Quiz. During this show the team of Pros, comprising Charles Collingwood, Trevor Harrison and Patricia Greene all had to come up with and sing lines to Barwick Green. Of course these were already scripted by Beeb writers so they worked very well.

Somewhere I have a copy of these words which I wrote down when the programme was aired at 11.15 pm one dark Sunday night. If I find them, I'll post them here. Unless, of course, anyone else can remember them?

I remember that recording. I was there. I answered a question and won a ticket. Whilst we waited for the recording that evening's Archers was broadcast to the audience and I remember Charles peering through a serving hatch mouthing the lines as his voice was heard over the speakers.

Later that night, I drove down to the Bull for a quick drink before heading back to Oldham.

You recounted the evening exactly as I remember it, Wessex. I too took a trip to the Vernon Arms after the recording, before heading back to North Staffordshire.

These are the words from the quiz. Charles Collingwood was instructed by quiz-inquisitor Sarah Greene to "have a dig at Eddie" during the song, so his lines are obvious:

"Let's all go and fetch the sheep,
    From Lakey Hill to Ambridge,
Evr'y lass should have her lad,
    Evr'y Phil his Jill,
Down at Hollow Tree, hear the piglets grunt and squeak away,
And in the Grundy homestead, Eddie, acts the self same way.

Spring is here and lambs are here,
    Soon be time for Maypole,
On the Green outside the pub,
    Round and round in time,
Girls are racing and Eddie's chasing, Ambridge is at play,
So now we go into The Bull to drink your health today."

I recall that the whole audience had to sing the last line and then applaud wildly.

Sallyruth- these messagestcertainly refer to what I remember. I think it may indeed have been a listeners' competition. But we still lack a line or two!!
