There have been lots of references on the boards to this of late, what with the Nigel storyline and all. It sounds like a Nigel alter ego.
I'm curious. Would a listener with more rings on their Archers trunk than I possess care to explain?

Morning, Shellfish.
At one stage many moons ago when Nigel was young and irresponsible and before Lower Loxley morphed into a vast stately pile comparable with Blenheim or Chatsworth.... Well, many moons ago he was looking round for one of those job things, and pursued a brief but memorable career as an ice cream van man under the moniker "Mr Snowy". It all seems a very long way away from the current sturm and drang German for turbulent events, mods). Hope this helps..
Oh, I had assumed it was a reference to Mr. Snow from 'Carousel':
darling Mr. Snow!Â
Elizabeth was also jobless and for a brief period she also had an ice cream van and called herself Mrs Snowy. Ice cream wars ensued. The past is another country...
Nigel in his youth went around Ambridge in an ice cream van
called "Mr Snowy" that's my vague memory of that story anyway.
Other ML posters will possibly have clearer ideas than I do.
And I seem to recall that after the demise of Mr Snowy Nigel became a swimming pool salesman.
Yes, he was responsible for selling a pool to Grey Gables, I think. Not sure if it was outdoor or indoor. If the latter, was this the start of the health club?
Hi sold a pool to JD-not that they mention it much
And he wore a gorilla suit regularly for reasons long forgotten.

If you just made that up, Vanessa Whitburn wants to employ you.
Play along and await further instructions.

No, I can assure you, that was in the programme!
I still think Nigel's finest moment was when he leapt into what he thought was Shula's bed at Brookfield and found himself on top of Phil.

Yes the GG swimming pool was the start of the health club - he was also I think responsible for Brian & Jenny's pool (and a duck pond for Derek Fletcher, although I made have imagined that one)

Wow, these japes sound genuinely jolly. By comparison I don't think Nigel was well served by scriptwriters within my listening memory.
Thank you for filling me in (mine's a large 99 with raspberry sauce and nuts, btw).
No, Home Farm bought their pool in the 70s, long before Nigel was challenging Ms Snowy

Wow, you really weren't kidding. I couldn't find any reference to Elizabeth's ice cream vending career online.
'Spose I've outed myself here. I was sitting by the computer, busily typing, so didn't bother to turn off the radio. I still see no reason to take a renewed interest in the programme wile the producers keep their heads stuck in the sand.
