Its painfully obvious that Nigel was overwhelmingly popular and Helen the very opposite. So do you think the writers misjudged their audience or was it a deliberate act to compete with the TV soaps. I would love to know .

I don't think this should be in N&Q, but I think the answer may be a bit of both. There was certainly a desire to attract new listeners, and that seems to have been successful. But whether the number of listeners gained exceeds the number lost is another matter. If not, then there was some misjudgment as well.
Whatever its lost it for me - i just hate the way Helen talks and walks . and...why did tony sell out to common sense

And how long will those new listerners listen for... 40 years, like many of the people who have stopped?
I suspect they will only listen until the next sensationalist event occurs eleswherwe, and then be off....

I think that Helen's personality change might be due to Helen's unpopularity on here, but it isn't really helping is it.
