I'd be really grateful if someone could remind me about the facts around Helen's hit and run. Who did she hit and who ever found out about it? Many thanks.

I can start off the responses to this thread by saying that it was Mike Tucker who was hit by the car Helen was driving. Tom was in the car with her and took the blame for the incident. I'm pretty sure that Mike was told the truth later on, but who else knew I'm not sure.

Others doubtless will respond in more detail.

That's about it. The only other people who know are Pat and Tony and (I think) Brenda.

After her "boyfriend" Ross chucked her for stalking him, and having been forced into a holiday with brenda (when Helen's only options were to go clubbing, drinking, and sleeping with a series of unsuitable men), Helen went on a bender in Borchester for some weeks, and spent her nights going clubbing, getting drunk and sleeping with another series of different, yet equally unsuitable men.

For some family occasion (a cow's birthday? A chicken laying her 100th egg?), Pat wanted A Special Family Meal. Helen managed to slide away (under the door, maybe) and escape to the Heart of Midlands Clubland.

Tom, incensed, went Out Looking For Her. He found her in Borchester, drunk in the arms of some Dreadful Hooray Henry (THAT'S a reason!), and frogmarched her to her car, and tried to make her hand over the keys. She refused, and he felt he had to leap in and go back with her to stop her driving like a maniac.

    Alas! It was Not ToBe.
Furiously rowing (that's arguing, not using oars) all the way home, Helen failed to see mike Tucker leap out in front of her car.She banged into him and drove on, despite tom's cry of "STOP!"

She did stop, a little way up the road, where they saw someone (Robert?) help Tucker to his feet. Helen was appalled, but so drunk that she let Tom take the wheel, and go to the police station to confess ("You will fail the breathyliser, Hellen!").

Helen next day wanted to confess to the police, but when they found the truth, that Tom had perverted the course of justice, Pat and Tony refused to let her.

Wracked with gilt that Mike had refused Tom entry to Brenda, Helen went and confessed to Mike. he apologised for having flung himself under her car and caused her all that distress. She graciously forgave him. mike told Brenda that Tom was allowed to play with her again.

    That seems pretty accurate, Sallyruth.

But the best thing is that you told it in a style which made me laugh.

    Well done and thank you.

    Great summary Sallyruth.

More toleration of crime in TA.

In mitigation we must concede that Helen was under a lot of stress..........

....but not nearly as much stress as us having to put up with her impossible "personality".
