Tayler, please can you (and/or the prodteam) explain how Jimus' recommendation on the 28 March to read a particular book (Metamorphoses) can be an April Fool?
Thank you.
I'd love to know what the script writer was thinking of, as well.
"Jim confesses that selecting Ovid’s Metamorphoses for the book group was an April fool joke,"
is just daft, considering they are to discuss the book three weeks away from April Fool' Day.
How come that Richard and Lynda could GET copies of this obscure book anyway?
Will Jim be the April Fool when he gets bills for the books already bought from Usha, Lynda, Richard, Joe, Nathan Boot (or indeed, Nathan Booth), Ruth, Jennifer and Lilian?
Plus, will they want to buy copies of a detective story which they won't have time to read before the next meeting, since a week or more of their reading time will have been lost?
Close this stupid story.
I agree Sr. It's very poor.

Obscure? You are joking, aren't you? It's one of the classics (one of the sources of the Greek myths, for a start).
I'm not questioning that it's a stupid SL, however.

But to be able to get the translation Jim suggested, at the "second hand bookshop" Lynda referred to?
Is everyone in Borchester in Jim's confidence, and able to get clean second hand copies of the exact translation? (There are myriad translations, this recommendation by Jim will be by one of his mates no doubt).
Ah, I didn't know you meant a particular translation.

Hi all
I'll pass on the comments/queries.
Thanks
Tayler
Thanks Tayler.
It's one of the classicsÂ
and it's available on Gutenberg.
So anyone can download and read at their leisure on those E-readers that everyone has....
Me, I'll stick to dog-eared paper.
Well, not Joe Grundy or Nathan Booth (or even Neville Booth!) or Clarrie, or many in the village of Ambridge!

..and you can get copies on Amazon for under £4.
In my experience, it's a lot easier to get copies of classics than many modern novels. I'd expect to be able to pick up this book in any second hand shop or library. It's seminal.
When I first heard this episode (very boring and long ago) I thought Jimus was referring to Metamorphosis.
Only a short story, maybe, but probably easy to buy.
But then Jimus would hardly recognise the 20th. century.
I would have enjoyed this storyline better if Lynda had decided to read the book anyway seeing as she had bought it, decided she quite enjoyed it and then talked about it intelligently with Jim. It is not so difficult as all that.
