Is it TA policy not to mention babies' birthweights? I think this was pointed out with Helen.
Now we have had another birth and no weight given. However in RL it is a pretty normal question to ask when someone has just given birth.
There was in fact a lengthy discussion of the baby's weight but it just happened when we weren't listening!
Nice one Mike!
I do find it baffling though, because I can't ever recall it being mentioned for any babies in TA. Take Ed's comment tonight about her being so tiny, well that lends itself to some sort of comment about weight IMO.
The reason I ask also is that someone mentioned it with Helen's sprog and seemed to suggest that there was an 'unwritten rule' that this has always been the case. Just wondering if there is any truth in this?
did I miss the babys name too?
Don't think we know the name yet, but apparently it has to begin with the letter "S" ~ does anyone know why this is, please??
(I wanted her to be named Josephine after her Gt. Grandad ~ I'm very fond of Joe)
The letter "S"?
Maybe it's in homage to someone's witty suggestion in here a while back, that if it were a boy it should be called "Solomon."

Hi peacemaker
There's no policy on not mentioning babies' weights on The Archers. I asked about baby Henry after the discussion here and they said that his exact weight was just something that didn't get a mention on air - ie it wasn't seen as essential to the narrative. As mike says, there are plenty of conversations that we don't hear in Ambridge every day! ; )

But EVERYONE asks What Did S/He weigh? After they have asked the gender!
I still remember the birth weights game, and how much they weighed at birth, even though I haven't a clue what hour they were born at("How can I possibly get my birth chart made ?").
It is an essential part of the NewBaby Experience.
Errmmm, there's not a real baby, you know. Its only a radio drama.
(I speak as one who has listened faithfully since the 1950s and never ceases to be amazed that listeners send cards, flowers, etc. to the Beeb for special events, bereavements, etc.)
You seem to be missing the point, Gene.
We know it's only a radio drama.
But if, in our opinion, it would be highly likely that in real life people would be asking "What did the baby weigh?", then it's a valid point to ask in here why we haven't heard it being asked.
If they can have the sound effects people playing pop music in Jaxx etc, if they can have real people like Ant Gormley taking part in village life, if they can make reference to bomb scares in Birmingham, Gay Pride Marches in London, royal blooddy weddings, then surely they can make the dialogue REALISTIC, as it is in real life?
