Customising the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú homepage?

  Why can't I customise the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú homepage to the background colour
  that I like also some of the sites that I use mostly.
  
  Like history, news, food, TV, Radio etc.
  
  It was fine on Thursday then the Royal Wedding happened and ever
  since it's gone weird, however many times I try to save my version
  of a customised page it returns to the Editors pick.
  Not that the Editors wrong just his or her choices aren't mine.
  
  Any suggestions/ideas are welcome.
