The SFX of last nights episode involved her pulling up in a car with Davids surprise picnic, then driving off furiously.
It was probably on LL private land, but you aren't allowed to drive for 6 months after having her cardiac implant, so, while it probably wasn't illegal, (although any insurance claim would be interesting), it wasn't very bright.

When did she have the cardiac implant?
Link to this forum: How long has Elizabeth been driving, Tayler?
When did she have the cardiac implant? Well the date of the implant hardly matters as it is less than 6 months since Nigel's death, so it must be less than 6 months since her operation.
Link to this forum: How long has Elizabeth been driving, Tayler?
And the laws of nature no longer operate in Ambridge since 2 Jan, so nothing matters any more anyway.

Of course it does not "matter" I just wondered!

Admitted 11th March & straight to Resus.
Implant operation on 17th March.

Thank you.
So this is the first time in 2 months that we COULD have heard the sound of the pacemaker/alarm/siren going off, and yet we were denied it?
Pooh
Link to this forum: How long has Elizabeth been driving, Tayler?
Of course it does not "matter" I just wondered! Sorry SR, didn't mean to sound rude to you. I just meant that it looked like another case of carelessness, and that made me sarcastic. If it was six months, we all know when Nigel died, so anything after that MUST be less than six months.

Very good point c-b. Unless Lizzie's (silent) chauffeur had been waiting on hand throughout the picnic? Perhaps that was Hayley being allowed to play with a new car?
Link to this forum: How long has Elizabeth been driving, Tayler?
It really does SOUND like the SWs have slipped up again, or at least the SFX person has 'dropped a clanger'.
Initially it sound like Deevid is pulling up on the tractor, BUT, the final seconds of the episode are definately of a car door slamming, a car starting and then accelerating away from Deevid.
C'mon, Beeb, admit this slip-up?

cath, it would be lovely if there were a silent witness to that scene. Roy or Hayley who would tell Mike who would tell Vicky who would tell Susan ...
I imagine, though, it's not against the law for Elizabeth to drive on private land.
Link to this forum: How long has Elizabeth been driving, Tayler?
No, it wouldn't be - if she damaged any property or injured anyone by doing so when she had been medically advised not to drive, though, the insurance claim might be interesting.

What insurance claim?
If her license is suspended then so is her insurance.
Link to this forum: How long has Elizabeth been driving, Tayler?
OI, I'm thinking of the hypothetical situation in which she damages property or injures someone whilst driving a car on her own property.
The car insurance as you say, would be invalid, but LL must have public liability insurance - what if, for example, Nigel caused a bit of the shop to drop onto a shoppers toe when he attacked it with the digger?

Good point, Carrick. I now have an image of Elizabeth side-swiping Jessica and the falcons, swerving back and hitting Bert on his allotment then wiping out several of the rare species in her rage as she drives back to the house. Makes me think of the hunter in the Tom Lehrer song who bagged:
Two game wardens, seven hunters, and a cow.
The matter of little matter of insurance came up in the song, too.
"The law was very firm, it
Took away my permit,
The worst punishment I ever endured.
It turned out there was a reason,
Cows were out of season,
And one of the hunters wasn't insured."

Inspirational, JJ -Tom Lehrer seemed to have had a prophetic vision of the Lizards road rage/cardiac arrested mayhem, because he also said -
We will all go together when we go.
Suffused with an incandescent glow.
No one will have the endurance
To collect on his insurance,
Lloyd's of London will be loaded when they go.

carrick-bend - LoLo has no legal obligation to have Public Liability Insurance. Only employee cover is required by law.
And standard insurances would exclude driving, to stop them being asked to share with the car insurers. So Liz would simply be uninsured. But still personally liable.

Was she advised not to drive, or was her licence suspended for 6 months
The issue of what constitutes private and public land is more interesting than you might imagine

Oh dear, now you've got me started! I can see Lizzie with some slight adaptations as the heroine of the Irish Ballad and also tenderly clutching Nigel's severed hand as in 'I hold your hand in mine, dear'.
(Perhaps she was hastily stuffing it away in the night table when Freddie came in early yesterday morning.)

Hi Tulse Hill
I vaguely recall some mention of her having to notify DVLC. Seems unfair!
I also recall that a few years ago it became illegal to drive drunk on some/all private land.

Yes, there is a difference between private land to which there is public access (a pub car park) and private land to which the public do not have access (a members only club car park)
The whole story is complex and long winded, but its all written up in Butterworths Police Law
Whew

Frederick Edward Robin Butler, Baron Butler of Brockwell, KG, GCB, CVO, PC (born 3 January 1938) is a retired British civil servant, now sitting in the House of Lords as a life peer.
He had a high profile career in the civil service from 1961 to 1998, serving as Private Secretary to five prime ministers. He was Secretary of the Cabinet and Head of the Home Civil Service from 1988 to 1998.
Lives in one of the big houses on the south side of Half Moon Lane near the Happy Clappy Church, and is a regular at the Lido.

That would be fun, but I am away at the moment.
Is there another website you use that I might pm you on?
Re the R Butlers' this seems to deserve a wider audience?
<< Early in his career, he was occasionally confused with his namesake Rab Butler. Memos for Rab Butler, some highly sensitive, ended up on his desk, and some of his ended up on Rab's. It was agreed that all memos ambiguously addressed to "R Butler" should go to Rab's office first, and then Rab's office would send on any intended for the other R Butler. It is said that one day the young Butler, who was still playing first class rugby, received a letter that read: "You have been selected for the Harlequins 1st XV on Saturday. Please be at Twickenham by 2 p.m.". Underneath, in Rab's distinctive handwriting, was the message: "Dear Robin, I am not free on Saturday. Please could you deputise for me? Rab." >>

The fact is, THE SWs HAVE BEEN CAUGHT OUT IN A PLOT ERROR! The fact that this storyline is linked to the event "which will shake Ambridge to its core" is shows how farcical it is to resurrect Elizabeth's brief and to engineer a family rift on the back of a good old soap opera confession.
'Cmon Beeb, admit you boobed this time and let Nigel rest in peace!

I don't see how. Elisabeth drove across private land and back - so what? Even if she /shouldn't/ /have/ (which hasn't been firmly established) it's not unbelievable that she /did/.

What slip-up, what continuity error?
Sure, David pulled up in his *tractor* - I have a friend who could probably tell you which just from the engine noise. Lizzie was already there, having driven her *car* to the meadow (across private land - the vehicle need not even have an MOT or insurance, IIRC) and was about to get the picnic out.
After her histrionics Lizzie jumped into HER car and drove off, leaving David weeping uncontrollably next to his (engine turned off) tractor and doubltess wondering whether Alan would be along soon to console him and polish up the olives & fancy bread.
Link to this forum: How long has Elizabeth been driving, Tayler?
Thread back on topic, at last, thank you.
If I recall correctly, after Elizabeth had her implant, she, herself, stated that she couldn't drive for six months. I presume that suspension of a driving licence following such a medical procedure is for safety reasons, both to the driver and to everyone else. This episode showing Elizabeth to still be driving therefore makes her statement that she blamed Nigel for his own death to be quite hypocritical, as the SFX indicates reckless disregard for her own and others safety as she is ignoring the advice not to drive.
The legal implications are another matter.
However, I still think the SWs have dropped one and should admit it.......
Link to this forum: How long has Elizabeth been driving, Tayler?
Too cold for the Lido, so doing a bit of research
It seems that the responsibility to inform DVLA is that of the driver, by way of a questionaire
This also provides consent to view medical reports
Elizabeth may have delayed or not bothered to do this
The decision is then soley in the hands of the DVLA.
This refers to 'pacemakers'not sure if that is specifically what Elizabeth
We need to know more before we can say for sure whether she should be driving

The Ischew was discussed at the time. She does not have a simple pacemaker, but a sort of internal version of the "Charging 240; Clear, bump" machine, which is apparently a bigger deal as it may come on without warning.
TAYLER - when wil we have word of this?
And of Liz knowing more about Dave/Nigel's conversation than she was told?
Link to this forum: How long has Elizabeth been driving, Tayler?
"Elizabeth may have delayed or not bothered to do this" - this is true, but I think probably illegal (or won't stand up well if something happens to her or others whilst driving).
My OH had to tell the DVLA of a diagnosis a while back, and they immediately wrote back putting him on a one-year licence only to be renewed with doctor's consent - without so much as checking on his actual physical condition. Luckily he had a very nice consultant who argued his case and he is back on the normal one (he is physically very well). But I suspect if Lizzie had bothered to tell the DVLA of her implant, they would have taken the conservative line and asked her not to drive for the recommended time.
Link to this forum: How long has Elizabeth been driving, Tayler?
Also if you haven't told your insurance company about a relevant medical condition (Elizabeths certainly is), your insurance is void, and driving on a public road without insurance is illegal.
Link to this forum: How long has Elizabeth been driving, Tayler?
Pleased things worked out for your OH
I resisted posting this, there is a lot of it
This is what Elizabeth would have been advised to do, probably by the surgeon
Nothing would happen until this had been received and medical evidence examined
Faced with this, I think it possible that even a perfectly balanced person would balk

Liz had An implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) is a small battery-powered electrical impulse generator which is implanted in patients who are at risk of sudden cardiac death due to ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia. The device is programmed to detect cardiac arrhythmia and correct it by delivering a jolt of electricity. In current variants, the ability to revert ventricular fibrillation has been extended to include both atrial and ventricular arrhythmias as well as the ability to perform biventricular pacing in patients with congestive heart failure or bradycardia.
The issue of fitness to drive in patients with ICDs is a contentious one. Until recently, patients with ICDs in the UK faced a lifetime ban from driving. Since then the regulations in the UK have been relaxed. ICD recipients may be allowed to drive between 1 and 6 months after implantation, depending on individual circumstances. ICD recipients must also refrain from driving for one month following any adjustments made to the device. Contact the DVLA www.dvla.gov.uk for more details. Driving licenses belonging to ICD recipients also become subject to annual review. Patients with ICDs are permanently disqualified from driving lorries and buses.

Elizabeth's heart surgery would invalidate the medical certification she'd need to drive said supertanker, so you're right.

Excellent point!!
And do you notice no one has yet answered this question.
There is just a possibility that Freddie and Lillie drove - one doing the pedals and one the steering.
OR they took that cart with the horse - Kristal Carrington? Or whatever.
Kenton drove them?
I give up. And so do the SW's, obviously.
