Sale of H2G2 - how it affects you

Hi all
The Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú has recently sent out emails to users about the sale of the H2G2 website, however many don’t seem to have been opened. I’ll keep this thread sticky for a couple of weeks to make sure people have the opportunity to see it and take any action if they wish.
The Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú intends to transfer ownership of the H2G2 website and the proposed new owner is the H2G2 Group chaired by Robbie Stamp, one of the original founders of H2G2 and a great friend of Douglas Adams.
The Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú will provide the new owners with an encrypted list of users’ emails and user IDs so they can invite you to re-join H2G2 after they take over the site.
This means that if you choose to register with the new H2G2 website and you enter your email address, the new owners will be able to link your Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú user ID with your username and your email address. If you were a contributor to H2G2, the new owners will then be able to link your past activity/posts with any future activity on the new website.
If you do not choose to register with the new H2G2 site, your personal information will remain encrypted and therefore inaccessible to the new owners, and will be deleted at the end of the transition process.
If, however, you would prefer not to be part of this process and would like your email address and ID to be removed from the encrypted list, then please email h2g2move@bbc.co.uk.

Tayler, I've just had an email from Not Panicking Ltd inviting me to register. Are they the right company?

Dear h2g2 user,
We're writing to invite you to transfer your membership to the new h2g2 - at www.h2g2.com.
How do I transfer to the new h2g2?

Go to www.h2g2.com. There, you will need to register with us. You may also take a look at our privacy policy, and terms and conditions.
We very much hope that you will want to transfer to the new hosts, and so continue your h2g2 membership. If you have your log-in details and the e-mail address you used when you registered with the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú, we, Not Panicking Ltd (the new owners) will re-create your account at the new site. This means that your contributions to h2g2 under the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú will be linked seamlessly with your future activity on the h2g2 website at its new location. If you can't remember some of this information please don't panic - we will do all we can to help.
What if I don't want to transfer?

We sincerely hope you don't wish to leave h2g2, but if you do not wish to register with the new website, then you don't need to do anything at all.
Your e mail address and other encrypted personal information will remain inaccessible to Not Panicking Ltd, and will be deleted in due course.

And just to clarify, that email was sent out by the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú, just using a "bulk mail" facility to hide that fact, either deliberately or accidentally.
It's also not entirely accurate, but then Not Panicking Ltd weren't actually asked to proof it before it was sent. The section that says:
"How do I transfer to the new h2g2?
----------------------------------
Go to www.h2g2.com. There, you will need to register with us. "
Is just plain wrong. You "Register" if you want to create a new account. There are completely separate procedures for transferring an account. But that's what the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú told 70,000-odd people, and it's up to volunteers like me to sort out the support email address for people who created spurious accounts while trying to recover their original one.

Why have the synospses stopped being sent - perhaps nothing to do this but I should like an answer please. I haven't have a synopsis since last Thursday.

Might also be worth checking that they're not going into your junk mail.
