For the umpteenth time that lorry has gone past in the background tonight. It is always the same, doing about 40mph; unmistakably a Leyland Clydesdale because of the engine pitch and the noise from one hub reduction axle.

Also, the builder's van at the Market Site tonight sounds like a Morris Minor with a blowing exhaust manifold joint. And the gearbox noises when the characters have conversations in cars ? Definitely straight-cut gears on 1st and 2nd, probably rather worn too.

I wonder whether the Archers production team will ever update the sound effects, or whether Ambridge will remain the last haven of classic vehicles that disappeared from our roads decades ago. Classic stuff.

I keep an ear out for the lorry - always driving too fast through the village green area, past Lillian's etc etc - it is a special feature that I probably hear more than some as I always listening to my mp3 early in the morning and shout "there it is again" across the park!

    Mabel,

As you say, these matters are important. Incidentally, Matt Crawford had an old Jaguar, the starter ring gear was a dead giveaway. And David has a real Land-Rover with clackety door locks.

Disappointed that the sound effects have still not been updated.

The very characteristic Leyland Clydesdale went by Neil and Susan's twice tonight at about 40mph, well inside 15 minutes.

I think the throttle linkage is jammed.
