I often wonder which sex contributers are and then why I am worried about it. Sorry to be sexist but I am trying to imagine people from their nicknames and whereas my own leaves one in no doubt as to my gender, I am puzzled by Organoleptic Icon and Chris Ghoti. Are they both men?
I think we should be told!

Why?
It's a question in the pubic interest.

peet You're male I'm guessing.
Why should we be interested what sex people are? why indeed.
Why should we be interested what sex people are?Ìý
Knowing that has changed the course of many an evening....
‘A lot of posters seem reluctant to reveal their gender but I am not sure why.’
I know the gender of a good number of posters by things they have said in the past. For example, of the two you mention one said ‘I prefer the one I've got. He has a sense of loyalty’ which appears to indicate female and the other said ‘Yes, the ladies (bless 'em) are truly the Jills of all trades. OH can simultaneously shout at the boy, nag me’ strongly suggesting male.
One of them says it is irrelevant and does not like it discussed so you will have to work it out yourself unless they wish to volunteer it.

Intriguing! I bet the one reluctant to discuss is female.
Correct.

You might get more responses to this if you repost in The Bull.
I'm female, by the way. No secret there.

Not necessarily, as you suggest - quite often not, on this MB.
In general, I don't think it matters. Age of posters is another one which can surprise you if you draw inferences from references to music, films etc. I read poster X a certain way and then find I'm 10 years out. Slight embarrassment. Probably the moral is just 'don't make assumptions.'

Anyone remember Reggie's campaign to get everyone to put their sex and age in brackets after their names?

Yes, I do,
sex and age in brackets after their names?Ìý
Yes. IIrc it looked like a route map. Mostly I am stuck on M25. I believe that Reggie is not far off the M90.
[Getting my coat.] [Apols to Reggie and for inappropriate levity in N&Q]

Glad you can, Reggie. Hope you're well.
(Yes, I thought it was something to do with motorways at first as well.)
