    Tayler

As you may have seen on the UCE thread we seem to have had a SECOND occurrence of Jenny (Darling) being in Ambridge AND thousands of miles away at the same time. Previously expected dropping in on Alice whilst in SA.

Could we have a rundown on how continuity is handled by the writers and producers.

Is there not a wallchart or spreadsheet showing, at minimum, which characters are out of the enclave?

For a modest fee I could provide a software solution.

I wonder what sort of old cobblers the Volkswagen & co will come up with this latest blunder?

The 'Jenny is popping round later to see Pekky' line, even though she is 5000+ plus miles away in the Maldives isn't a major catastrophe in itself. What it does indicate another example of the carelessness, lack of interest in what characters are (not) doing on the part of the scripties and contempt of TA and its listeners.

    Over to you Tayler...

    Hi both

This is indeed an error as Jenny is still in the Maldives. The team send their apologies.

OI - to your point about continuity, there are many checks on the storylines and scripts in the process and every effort is made to keep mistakes out of the scripts, but it would be impossible to eliminate human error entirely.

What would disturb me if I was in charge is that it is the SAME mistake repeated.

After having Jenny "popping in" on Alice from SA I would have required to be assured that there were procedures in place to stop such an elementary mistake recurring.

Does ANYBODY have the specific duty of reading through the script to check that all the characters referred to are capable of doing what they are doing?

    Hi again OI

I don't think that anyone has the job of reading through the script solely to spot continuity errors. Once the script has been written, the script editor will read it through.

    Hi Tayler

Might OI suggest that someone SHOULD have that precise task?

Presumably the continuity person whom we understand exists?

    "script editor" - who (s)he?

Please can we have a TA organigram. I'm SURE there is one!

But there have been so many errors recently (see the UCE thread elsewhere). Could the recent increase in continuity errors etc be the result of the scripties taking their eyes of the ball and concentrating on the execrable AmEx?

I was talking to a colleague. a long time fellow TA listener recently who admitted she was on tenterhooks about Cloive's possible return to Ambridge (she never listened to AmExlax) and she was dismayed to know that as he has gone forever due to Matt's plotting. Said colleague feels cheated and I can't say I blame he as the concept of AE was that it would be entirely standalone and it clearly isn't as Horrobin's hasty departure from Borsetshire let alone Ambridge proves.

For a modester one, I could supply a box of A5 cards, indexed by character/place/time ... it can't be that hard can it?

Nadolig Llawern yourself, Orgers. Even as I fiendishly undercut you for the TA Continuity a/c ...

In 1895, during exercises with the Mediterranean Fleet, Admiral George Tryon ordered his fleet to form in two parallel divisions and steam towards the nearby coast. At the last minute, he ordered each column to come about 180 degrees in turn towards each other. This caused the leading ships of the two divisions HMS Victoria and HMS Camperdown to collide disastrously. Tryon went down with his ship.
At that very moment, several guests at a social function taking place at Tryon's London house alleged that they saw the Admiral walking down the stairs, dressed in full uniform. So, if you believe in ghosts, Jenny could be in two places at once - except she isn't dead. Ah well.

I don't believe there are more continuity errors now than there used to be. It is just that there are more people around than there used to be on the MB to notice them. Whereas we used to just have a good chuckle about them there is now a tendency among some posters to regard them as some sort of moral failing on the part of the production team.
