Any chances of a "Like" -type- button here in ML? Am thinking along the lines of what you see on many media websites for editorials and comments. Why, even the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú News section has this form of button/icon.

Sign me up for a like button. Very often I want to support a post but don't want to type "I agree" which is dull for everyone. A like button would give everyone a better idea of what more people are thinking.
Would this cost a lot in management time?

Please, no. It would be but a small step to emoticons. It's the thin end of the smiley wedge.
In any case this board is about discussion. If you agree with some one's post you can say so and give your reasons why, thus adding something. If you haven't got anything to say then don't say it.

Hi MicklefiedSchool
I don't think there are any changes planned to the way the board functions. Thanks for the suggestion though! : )
Tayler
An absolute no to the 'like' button idea - one of the most inane inventions of the 21st century so far.
As Reggie says, this board is for discussion and conversation. Those things require words. A 'like' button, like smileys, would tend to take away from that discussion. If you 'like' someone's post, you can say so in words.

Thank you for the reply Tayler.
I think a 'like' button, or voting up/down on posts would be a good idea. It works well on HackerNews:
this messageboard is looking rather old fashioned.

"Thumb Up" to Reggie & Leapers ....
What a ghastly idea for a *discussion* board, one best wrapped up neatly and placed in the rubbish bin of illiterate lack of imagination to which smilies and other similar excrescences are best consigned.
The lack of 'like' & 'thumbs up' buttons, like the lack of smilies, is part of what makes ML so special : we're not Facebook, we're not Proboards, and we're not Youtube - thank heavens.

. If you agree with some one's post you can say soÂ
But risk getting modded, of course.

this messageboard is looking rather old fashioned. Good. We're old-fashioned sort of people that like to use words in sentences and paragraphs with proper punctuation. If you want illiterate tripe there are plenty of choices out there.

Looks fine to me. Oh, wait, I'm using "Proteus" - as you were.
