Tayler have you seen the threads mentioning that when Adam phoned Debbie in Hungary her phone gave a UK not EU ringback?

Any chance of this being acknowledged as an error so we can all move on?

Gordon Bennet. I've seen some nit picking about continuity errors but that takes the biscuit.

Threads about it? Some people really need to get a life.

Yes - but it is needlessly careless in a sound only medium.

A euro-ringback could have avoided the need for the clunky

    "Hello, Debbie Aldridge speaking"

鈥淚gen鈥 or 鈥淭ess茅k鈥 (Yes/Here) would be more realistic!

Perhaps Debbie has two mobile 'phones - a UK one that has "roaming" minutes, and a Hungarian one for farm business? Adam will have called her UK one which she will answer in English. As for the "ringing" tone, if it was a roaming UK 'phone, wouldn't it be a UK tone, as it's generated by the operator?

Peet - The "ringback" (not "ringing") tone CAN be generated by the UK Service provider, but the usual (AFAIK universal) practice is for it to relay whatever the destination provides, as this may also include service messages - no such number; network failure, etc.

I don't think that's right, or at least not universally.

I often phone a business colleague with a UK mobile, and I cannot tell from the ringtone I hear whether he is in the UK or not, which he usually isn't. So in his case at least a roaming UK phone generates a UK ringback tone.

Also I have a phone with a French PAYG SIM card in it, which roamed (expensively) when I bought it back to the UK. I am pretty sure it had a continental ringtone even when it was back home. Unfortunately it has now expired so I cannot confirm this.

Good point he is often in the RSA, so that might explain it - Wik. says commonwealth countries.

It's not as if the information is hard to track down!

"Get a life" in message 2 of a thread - is this a record? (I once used it as a thread title, but that was supposed to be an advertising slogan for /BLife/ so doesn't count)

I don't know whether or not this was a record for an early "get a life" comment, but rarely was it more justified. IMHO!

If you feel you - or Reggie - have the right - let alone the authority - to tell other posters what they may or may not say (within the House Rules) I would suggest you think again.

I would also remind you that one of those rules reads: We reserve the right to fail messages which:

    - Are considered likely to disrupt, provoke, attack or offend others聽
And yes, I know I could catpee you both, but I think it better to leave the evidence there for all to see.

No. I haven't told anyone to "get a life" or told them what subjects they may or may not discuss. You chose to join this discussion apparently with the sole purpose of making personal attacks on other posters - after all, you have signally failed to make any contribution to the topic. Not only are you in breach of the house rules by attacking posters personally, but also by being entirely off-topic. If the discussion doesn't interest you, then you are at liberty to leave it. If you have anything constructive to add, then I would be happy to give it due consideration.

If someone chooses to be gratuitously offensive, it reflects more on them than on their target.
