Thor's Hammer
I understood Chris was a Farrier so I would think he mainly makes horseshoes (with the odd bit of blacksmithing thrown in, remember the candlestick?)
Do you know any farriers who custom-make shoes from scratch now, Bollynix?
I've seen it done at country fairs, in exhibitions of farriery, but for the last 40 years, I've seen them bought in, then heated and made to fit. (For hot-shoeing - I know there are cold-shoers, but I wouldn't use them).
Here's an example (other suppliers are available)
There's a firm of farriers in the Vale that make their own shoes, c-b. We used to take the horses there and there'd be long rods of horseshoe metal just waiting to be made into shoes. I never got tired of watching the whole process from them pulling the rods off the rack to riding away with lovely new shoes on neat feet!
As for cold shoeing.... wouldn't countenance it.

Well it it ain't whoopee thanks to JD's clodhopping. Thor's hammer was about to be utilised but wilted quickly.
(And would JD really have mentioned her daughter's deshabille to her? Ruth woukd have hooted and honked it about if had been the Pipsqueaker clad in just in apron but I would have though Jenny would turn a blind eye to her own child's near nakedness.)

Hello,
my husband still makes his own horseshoes.
And I bet his clients are very grateful for that, dockersdaughter3!
Thanks for responding, Dockersdaughter - it's good to know that the craft continues.

Carrick - Bend and Bollynix,
I do not think he would enjoy the work if his shoes were not made to measure!
Good Man Mr dockersdaughter3! How's his back? < winkysmileywotsit >

I suspect that preformed shoes cost little more than the metal to start from scratch
