Wouldn't it have been better to chose actors to play these roles?

well, part of the charm of TA in days gone by was that actors weren't always chosen to play the roles. The excellent Mollie Harris was the last example, I think.....
How rude. I have no fault to find with either actor.

I was told that the chap who plays Robeert Snell is really a GP in his day job.
He is very good all the same.

Susan's really a something or other too* and she's properly splendid.
*You know, a something or other that's like totally not a yoghurt making post mistress.
Clinical psychologist, I think.
Really!!!!!!
What is she doing playing Susan?
Lil

Which surely cannot be Susan?
Ha ha!
Research psychologist, I see. She has a Ph.D. This sounds like a very worthwhile project and one that might find some takers in Ambridge:
Charlotte Conner??? Why then does WW say Charlotte Martin? No wonder I couldn't find anything about her other than her singing career
Lil
I certainly know of one other Archers character who has changed his surname (in his case because there is another actor with the same name) so I don't see why Charlotte Conner should not change hers.

Is that David? There are so many "Bentinck, 12th Earl of Portland, 8th Graf Bentinck und Waldeck Limpurg"'s around these days.

IIRC Equity will not allow repeated names - but women often keep their maiden names for work after marrying?
No, it's not one of the Archer clan. But there's a clue in Rupert Brooke's Old Vicarage and in the actor's Who's Who entry.

And Cambridgeshire, of all England,
The shire for Men who Understand;
And of that district I prefer
The lovely hamlet Grantchester.
For Cambridge people rarely smile,
Being urban, squat, and packed with guile;
And Royston men in the far South
Are black and fierce and strange of mouth;
At Over they fling oaths at one,
And worse than oaths at Trumpington,
And Ditton girls are mean and dirty,
And there’s none in Harston under thirty,
And folks in Shelford and those parts
Have twisted lips and twisted hearts,
And Barton men make Cockney rhymes,
And Coton’s full of nameless crimes,
And things are done you’d not believe
At Madingley on Christmas Eve.
Strong men have run for miles and miles,
When one from Cherry Hinton smiles;
Strong men have blanched, and shot their wives,
Rather than send them to St Ives;
Strong men have cried like babes, bydam,
To hear what happened at Babraham.
And there you have it - though he does not have twisted lips. His real surname is Barnard.
