I sometimes see it at the top of a thread. Maybe (I hate the way Roof says that) it means "bored of responsibilities in RL". TIA. exxers
It means "good morning" in Welsh. It's the standard opening for the Early Day thread.

Strictly the "bore da" means "morning good".
All is English!
Soon it will be "prynhawn da"

I don't think it literally means "morning good" as it is understood the word order is different in Welsh.
All in Welsh would mean he/she/it can or it can be. So that wouldn't make sense on its own...

rick my translations were for those who do not know welsh, not those who do.

Translation is not a matter of substituting one word for another in a literal fashion but giving in the target language the meaning of the phrase in the original. That's what I did, not what you did.

Agreed

No.
You translated "Bore da all" as "Good Morning" - which would simply be "Bore da".
I simply explained to those for whom it was not obvious that "all" was in English; and indicated that Bore=day and da=good.

Indeed I didn't register that the "all" was in the thread title.
Wow! Thanks all. I've got half-Welsh step-grandchildren. I shall txt them with greeting. exxers
Hey, but I got modded for using Latin and someone else gets modded for using Chinese by accident. Is it just Gaelic lingo. that the moods can cope with? - obv. they don't *do* English. exxers
To be fair, Welsh is an official language of the UK.

Yes, and every statement about immigrants speaking English SHOULD add "or Welsh, or Scottish Gaeilic".
NB That there ARE people who speak fluent Welsh but no English.
Bigfoots!
