After recent discussion, in which I suggested that MLers take advice and refrain from joining it, have decided to give it a go. (F. prerogative - change mind and all that). Anyway, I popped in and it would not accept my username & password: even I can manage to get those right. Any ideas? TIA exxers
It's a completely separate board. You create a new password etc, it has nothing to do with the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú.
(Why would you tell people not to join? It seems perfectly harmless.)

You have to register there. It will not just take your Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú identity.
You can use the same, slightly different, or totally different.
Once you join, post on my last & only thread there to say hello.
Hi Exxers and Ol:
If I give my e-mail address in Peet's Place (which TBH will be a bit tricky: shared computer etc.).....can anybody at all get to read it?
If I sent you Exxers or Ol an e-mail, would other people be able to access my e-mail address from that message too? Wouldn't be too keen on that.
Deeply confused
s.fluff
susukifluff, if you sign up, myself and my PHP Guru Bob will have access to the email address you use, but we will only ever email you if there's a problem. I can't think of an example at the moment, but we have over 650 email addresses "logged" and we've only ever had to contact a dozen or so people about things like lost accounts etc.
Once you're a member, you can choose to have an "Email" link displayed with your name - this allows people to send emails to you through the board, but does /not/ reveal your email address. They only get to see your address if you reply to them.
That's pretty much how it works. In my FAQ I suggest that you sign up for a "throwaway" address with the likes of and register with that, so that if our database ever gets compromised (these things happen) you can just shut the address down without affecting your "main" email.
Hope that helps.

Presumably Peet can. Shared poota or shared email? Are you planning anything disreputable?

I don't think so.
I'vr only just joined it myself, but it has been around for ages and I think it's OK.

Mwahahahahaha[cough]hahaha!
Dear Ol:
Shared poota or shared email?Ìý
mmm....both I think. We've only just changed to another BT e-mail system so I'm not too sure but can find out.
Dear Peet: many thanks for the helpful advice.

If you use several emails on one account others may be able to see your mails, depending how it is set up. If you can/cannot see theirs is a guide, but there may be a "see all" option.
But unless you are planning to say something you would be embarrassed by.......

Sorry.....I was getting in a bit of a state back there. So nothing new then!
So.....I'll join Peet's Place but probably not put my e-mail address in the details thing.
Sorry again.

Peet (or anyone), sorry for being a numpty, but how do I get the little rectangle saying "E-Mail" to appear next to my name? (i.e. how do I make my e-mail address available to other users?)
If I go to "Change your settings" it says "Click on Profile at the top of each page", but I don't see the word Profile at the top of the page.

I do - every page.
Then click profile and it's a choice in the Display Settings section.
SUSU - why noit see if you can email me without even joining Peets. Do you see the box as a non member? I still see them if I log out, so probably.
LS, it's assuming you're in PHPBB mode; if you don't have all the links at the top of the page, you'll find a "Change your settings" link at the bottom of the left-hand side. (In HowerdToo mode, the darker one)

I can't see OI's thread. I suspect it was in The Bull, but it has vanished after 16 days of inactivity. Just start a new thread in The Bull after you log in, and OI can find you.

Are you sure it didn't just confirm that you have registered? (You have)

Peet, I notice that some people on your site are there as guests and you can't click on their name. One (or two) such persons are Mince Pie Anyone and Penny for them.
Dear Peet: I clicked on Toggle something or other and Peet's Place has all gone yellow and I can't do much with it!!!
Help please.
(Bet you wish you'd never heard of me).
thanks,

Susu - Find "Toggle Mode" in the new mode and click it (top right in black IIRC) and it will TOGGLE tot the other MODE (layout/colours)!
TOGGLE tot the other MODE (layout/colours)!Ìý
Huge snork. Are you actually talking English!
Sorry......will try and sort it out. The colour's a bit blinding but I'll put on my sunglasses.
Thanks.
s.fluff xx
...nope there's nothing 'top right'. It all looks completely different and the normal home page just isn't there.
That's not much help. I'll go back then come back here and tell you what I am actually seeing.
Ahh. Bless you! Panic over. Of course there was something there about toggles after all. I pressed it and everything's normal again.
Why would Bob (I think it was) - in his message - have told me to press this toggle button in the first place?
(Do we really like Bob?)

That list appears either under "MUSTARDLAND" or in a grey lione at the top that starts "a Peet site".
A "TOGGLE" is a button that alternates between alternative options
Why did me pressing it make everything go yellow and useless then?
(Think our posts are getting badly timed here. I'll shut up for a few minutes...then you can see that everything is o.k. now ...for the time being).
Sorry Ol: got to go out (to the library where I understand things!).
If you have got the time to explain to me why, under Bob's message, it said to press the 'toggle' button I'd be grateful.
Many thanks,

In reply to susukifluff:

It didn't. It just changed to a different layout of the board which some may prefer.
The bright yellow layout is called "PHPBB Mode", and it makes the board work like many of the message boards out there; the darker mustard-coloured layout is called "HowerdToo" mode, and is a pretty faithful replication of the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú's "Howerd2" boards that were here before 2005. You can toggle back and forth between them freely.
"HowerdToo" is what we call a "threaded" node - your replies appear underneath the post you were replying to, indented slightly. This allows you to have many separate conversations going on a single thread.
And we all like Bob. He's the one who makes it all work.
And we all like BobÌý
Yes, I like Bob too ...now!
So when Bob told me to toggle something, he was in fact giving me the answer to my question about what the old design was like - by showing me?
Ah.....things are getting clearer.
Thanks for the help.
s.fluff (but I think I'll stick to the present day format....easier on the eyes!)
Um....'yellow and useless' probably just about sums up my state this morning. Well actually not so yellow as crimson.
Thanks for the help. Must get out of this habit of total immobilising fear when I press a key and get a result I'm not used to. Any young person doing the same thing would simply try and work it out.
My dear old Mum once did something on her poota which resulted in a caption coming up with the words "You have performed an illegal action". She sat for hours waiting for the police to knock on her door!
Something in the genes perhaps?

There's a rumour that Bob is in fact God, and Peet is His prophet. (Bob doesn't actually appear, I don't think, just does miraculous things behind the scenes).

So..bottom line is we are particularly nice to Bob and fairly pleasant to Pete?
Hope Bob didn't see my earlier post then.....or I'm in trouble. I'll be booted out of Peet's Place before I've even begun.
Not my best day today TBH!
s.fluff
I think he's a compassionate god, after all He has sent Peet to help us work it all out, that we may in the end be saved. I don't think people get booted out unless they are Very Very Naughty. Or bots.

Amy: You see I've so much to learn. What on earth is a bot? I've learnt more new words since I've been coming to M.Land than I could have guessed existed!
