Hello - I'm confused.
Which grades did Jamie get, and in which subjects, please?
Thank you.
vsm, Ms Tayler gave us an answer to this in the thread "Why the change of heart from Jamie?",
But I read that synopsis too, and she doesn't mention the results he told Rosa that he had got. I am going by what was broadcast and not by what the synopsis says, because I have read things in synopses which definitely had not been on air. It was totally ambiguous in the episode on the radio.

Well, I thought so too, Chris. I think we need a clear denouement and some more specifics.

Seconded.
I can do without learning Jamie's grades. This is the sort of thing we really do not want to hear on the radio (Too Much Information).
Why, Mike? It is an important part of the plot, I would have thought: it makes a lot of difference to whether various reactions would be justified, and tells us about how Jamie thinks. In the same way I *do* want to know what sort of cattle Ed runs, and Brookfield: it makes a difference
Er, no ... a set of AS grades make no difference whatsoever ... (they can retake them until they get the grades they need). This is a complete non-story. I want more stuff about the Beast of Ambridge, not boring stuff like A level grades.
mike, what Jamie said to whom and which was really true does matter. The actual grades don't, but that does. It is not what but which that is in question.
According to the 9am news this morning the grades were going to be announced for students in England, Wales and N. Ireland "within the hour". So how come Jamie and his girlfriends found theirs out days ago? Do they commute to Scotland for school?
Today is GCSE results (old o-levels)
Last week was A and AS levels.
Today's are GCSE; Jamie's were AS and those came out sooner.
Ah, OK.

From the synopsis:
Natalie, already intoxicated by her exam success, is tipsily lauding her A grades over the less successful Jamie. When Rosa comes upon him he is sulking in the kitchen, but she doesn't think his claimed two As, a B and a C are anything to be ashamed of. Jamie seeks solace by test driving Rosa's scooter on the driveway. But Natalie finds the pair closely entwined in an intimate discussion. Enraged, Natalie declares that she and Jamie are finished for good.
Jamie skulks home to find Kathy waiting up for him, keen to hear of his success. He spits out his results: two Cs, a D and an E. He knows he's messed up and insists these exams will be his last. He's not going back to college in September and he's not going to universityÂ
I'll pass on that there seems to have been some confusion as to Jamie's actual grades, but I think it's clear from the above that Jamie didn't lie to Kathy about his marks, but did to Rosa.

Tayler the synopsis says that, but CHECK AGAINST DELIVERY as they say win press releases.
In the recording Jamie claims AÂ鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú not AABC per the synopsis.
I do not find it in the least clear which of the three is actual.

Thank you Tayler.
The synopsis may give a slight steer towards truth-to-mum but the synopsis and the performance as heard are two different things. We shouldn't need the synopsis to explain the performance. I often find the synopsis, shall we say, "interpretive". With over twenty years of listening to TA clocked up, I have been very confused over this storyline.
In my humble view as a teacher of literature and sometime scribbler the lie-to-Rosa was simply redundant and confusing as she would have been more than happy in any event to provide the 'consolation' which triggered the dumping by Natalie.
Any word on which grades in which subjects, the resits, and the subject likely to be dropped?
Thanks again,
vsm xx
Thanks Tayler - unfortunately it was not clear to this listener which was the real set of results. I've been wondering if Jamie lied to Kathy as a way of getting out of any further study... clearly I was wrong. So now I'm confused, and feel the scripties should have signalled things more clearly. It doesn't make sense that he'd lie to Rosa, who clearly doesn't give two hoots about such minor things as qualifications, without some sort of qualifying explanation, eg saying to Kathy he was too embarrassed to tell his friends the truth.
Perhpas you could also pass on to the team the confusion this 'double set' of results has created among listeners? I'm going to mark this one down as 'could do better' on all accounts.

I think the synopsis starts as the plot outline and does not get revised when what is actually written/recorded is different.
That's helpful - not!!!
So the synopsis is essentially useless, as it may, or may not be accurate - your guess is as good as mine?
I'm confused...
Try Lowfield: it may be biased by how the person who prepared the synopsis feels about say Emma, but it is not likely to include things which were not broadcast. A combination of the two will usually give a pretty good idea.
