Tayler can we please have a statement if this is deliberately scripted, or an error by the writers?
If the former, why no comment in the script? Or is that still to come?
Clearly this was deliberate! (It was just so in character for Lucy.)

Jolene's silence was comment enough. I felt so furious on her behalf, I almost wrote her a commiserating letter.

Do we know she cared though? I'm not sure she does - am waiting to hear if she mentions it to anyone e.g. Fallon when she phones her ..

NO mention of his first wife, Polly either.
Wasn't she Lucy's mum? seems like a bit of a glaring ommission there too.

It might be difficult to mention her Mum - for wouldn't she also have to mention Kathy and Jolene?
However not to mention Jamie ..!!!
Badly done Lucy .. badly done ..

Did mention Joleen - wife in office at death.
Did Polly die or divorce? If died, should be mentioned
No need mention Kathy,- Jamie should be there.
But is it nasty Lucy or forgetful scriptie?
Or did Joleen only vocalise some of what she read?
I don't think Lucy would have any problem in mentioning her mother and ignoring Kathy! Seems right in character.
The more I think about it, as it currently reads the memorial would suggest that Jolene is Lucy's mother - surely not what she would have intended.

Actually - just LAd (in order to complete synopsis) and Jolene WAS mentioned ..
So - right to do it that way - but wrong WRONG not to mention Jamie ..
It seems that Jolene left a message on Kentons phone - which he'd never looked at - so maybe her complaints included that ..

Lucy did mention Kathy - in respect of coming over to the funeral - but only to have a snipe at Kenton for NOT coming with Kathy and comparing her with Sid in that respect ..
JPBS
I meant mention on the memorial plaque. Sorry if that wasn't clear.
I can't see why on earth Lucy would leave off her own mother but mention Jolene. the wording made it seem like Jolene was the mother of Lucy, which is clearly absurd.
What on earth were the scripties thinking of to miss out Lucy's own mother and her half-brother? it just doesn't make sense.

it's definitely not what Sid would have wanted......
mind you, he probably wouldn't have been too keen on the whole dying business either.

If she'd put her own mother on the memorial she'd have had to include Kathy as well .. I think maybe three is too many!

I don't think so. A deceased wife should appear. A divorced one might reasonably be omitted.

I think Jamie was missed out because of the Kathy connection. And did he get more than Lucy in Sid's will? I can't remember now but it's possible that Lucy resents him because of that. Her remark about the memorial, something like 'it's all that we have' suggested to me that she still isn't happy that Sid's ashes went back to Ambridge.

Why on earth did they not split the ashes?
stop being so sensible, OI!!!
What memorial? Have I missed something?
This was in Ambridge Extra so it may be in a parallel universe as far as you are concerned.

Hi all
Just had the following back from Keri on this - most of you guessed why Jamie's name was missing from the memorial.
With Jolene’s entry also an afterthought we were trying to show Lucy’s vindictiveness.Â

Thanks Tayler.
Two questions then
1) How were we supposed to know Jolene's entry was an afterthought?
2) Why has Joleen never mentioned the strange omission of Jamie to anyone?

She may have OI - in the message to Kenton.
Of course at the moment she has other things on her mind .. though that *should* be on the AmEx website.
If Tayler doesnt mind I'll put Keri's answer on the AmEx web site - on the synopsis in fact

OI - for what it's worth I think that the way the memorial was wordered made it pretty clear that Jolene's mention on it was viewed by Lucy as being incidental, in exactly the same way in which the deliberate omissions of Kathy & Jamie were emphasised by Lucy stating in full queen bitch mode to Jolene how much Sid would have loved grandson Sidney, how he loved the first grandson, how important family ties were ... and yet miraculously Lucy failed to have mention of K&J on the memorial.
As for Jolene not mentioning it - (a) who say's she hasn't? and (b) she has been somewhat occupied with other emotional issues viz. Kenton since her return to Mel's. It may yet arise, or it may fester for weeks or months, only to arise in a conversation between Jolene and Fallon, or maybe even in some future row between Jolene and Jamie?

My guess is that she only had "husband of Jolene" added when she knew Jolene was visiting...maybe only just done which is why she was extra off about the visit being brought forward.
I know ashes are scattered but divvying them up seem a bit.... well it isn't what I'd want....
If family is so important to Lucy, then it makes the ommission of Polly all the more glaring!
I've actually got my Dad's ashes upstairs - I hope to take some of them back to Poland one day. The remainder I'll keep until my Mum dies and then mingle them and get them interred together. I guess that might seem really strange to you!

Indeed - Lucy was 10 yo when Polly died (February 1982), so she would still remember her, I imagine.
I think Lucy was trying to emphasise that to *her* Sid was first & foremost her father and grandfather to her two sons, and while she was trying to erase Kathy & Jamie from her memories of him, she had grudgingly to acknowledge that Sid had spent the last 11 years of his life with Jolene.
Lucy's bitter jibes at Jolene were ironic really, given that it was Sid's actions that ended his marriage to Kathy.

Oh I can understand the sentiment... when a Polish friend died they brought some earth from his village to scatter on his coffin and I realise it is illogical since scattering separates them anyway so it probably just me. And if I were cremated I would be scattered ...but my parents chose woodland burials and feeding a tree is first choice for me too... hopefully not too soon.
Ginners - woodland burial is my choice too. It seems to complete the circle of life somehow.

Indeed, but Lucy said words to the effect "I waited until after Sidney was born so that I could put him on the memorial as well, since I knew Dad would have loved him just as much as he loved Matthew".
Lucy was simply being queen bitch, as I said upthread: drawing a tight circle around her, Sid, Sidney & Matthew, grudgingly acknowledging Jolene, and deliberately ignoring the inconvenient existence of Kathy & Jamie. Cannot understand her lapse of memory over Polly - did they have a particularly poor relationship?

I feel like that and we were lucky that we have a lovely place just up the road. I find it very comforting and in the ten years that separated my parents deaths it had become a "proper" woodland.

Polly - did they have a particularly poor relationship? Not at all - in fact Lucy, on Sid and Kathy's wedding day, left flowers on Polly's grave, with a card saying goodbye mum.
