    Hi Tayler

Emma should (must)claim the cash reward from Crimestoppers she is surely entitled to -

It was her call to them that resulted in Keef's arrest andsubsequent conviction and she could get paid up to £1000.00. Given that the SWs screwed up early on - the police informed Keef he'd been questioned as a result of anonymous tip-off to Crimestopers - and this is something that would nver happen given the confidentiality of the CS scheme - the Sws owe it to the charity to show them in a more positive light. (And Emma would have few quid in her purse).

    How about it?

BG, as speculation concerning the direction a SL could or should take, rather than a question "about TA or the MB", surely this would be better raised in DTA?

It seems a bit bizarre to be so demanding of Tayler that she express her view as to how a SL should proceed - it's not as though this is yet another of TA's legion factual errors.

    Emma rang anonymously!

How can she claim anything - they won't know she was the snitch.

I suppose Tracey could have already claimed?

    !!

    Hi BG

Apologies - I didn't see this as a question, but a suggestion. Emma isn't up for any compensation as far as I'm aware - particularly as her call was anonymous.

    Hi Tayler

That (if?) Emma's call was anonymous that would not prevent gettin a cash reward - see

    "What we mean by anonymous

you will never be asked for your name
your call will not be recorded
your call or online form will not be traced
you will not have to make a statement to the police
you will not appear in court."

    And

" When you call us, we will give you a code. This will be the only way of identifying you anytime you ring back or collect the reward. If you are interested in collecting a reward, you will be asked to contact us again at a later date, to find out if the information you have given has led to somebody being arrested and charged.

Once a suspect has been charged, you will be told that the amount of the reward needs to be confirmed by the Chairman of the local Crimestoppers Board of Volunteers. This may take a few days. Once this has been confirmed, you will be then asked to name:

the branch of a bank where you can collect the reward
the date when you want to collect it.

On the agreed date, all you need to do is to go to the bank branch, quote your code and you will be given your cash reward. You will not be asked to sign anything or to provide any proof of your identity. "

So, you see, there is NO DOUBT Emma is entitlled to an award and the only question is how much. The mechanism is in place.

That the SW's messed up the storyline in its early days is bad enough; now ignoring the fact that Emma is entitled to much needed - and indeed deserved - compensation just addes insult to Crimestoppers injury.

Do you think you could go back and raise this with the SWs please?

ThanksTayler. (I have a vested interest here as back in the day I was part of a working party which helped formulate Crimestoppers policy including rewards. The SWs made an terrible blunder - perhaps putting off Archers listeners from taking part in Crimestoppers - and they really should remedy their poor research by promoting the CS scheme in a more positive light.)

This is yet another an example of shoddy writing and let's ignore the facts/make it up as we go along as the listeners are no-nothing numpties we can 'mushroom'.

Emma /chose/ to ring crimestoppers because she wanted her family to be safe.

She does not "deserve" any recompense for doing the right thing.

If she had wanted to do it for the money, she would presumably have written down the number.

Dinah - maybe I haven't made my (pedantic) point clear. That Emma's call was anonymous doesn't rule out her claiming a reward; in fact the vast majority - about 98% - of callers to CrimeStoppers don't identify themselves.

The SW's ridiculous and misplaced assertion that Emma can't claim a reward because her call was anonymous sums up their ignorance, Why write about a real life agency like CS and then get it completely wrong and also scare listeners into not using it because the suspect is told about the call?

That CS is an real entity with practices and procedures does mean that the scriptwriters cannot have a suspension of belief or change the facts to suit the storyline.

Whether Emma wants or deserves a reward is neither here nor there.

BG, as a matter of interest, what percentage of people whose calls lead to an arrest claim the money?

I note that " If you are interested in collecting a reward, you will be asked to contact us again at a later date, to find out if the information you have given has led to somebody being arrested and charged." I don't know if we heard the whole call to Crimestoppers but she seemed to want to get off the phone as quickly as possible - was there even time for the operator to tell her about the reward scheme? And even if there was I don't suppose the idea of a reward was uppermost in her mind.

I agree the way the prodteam handled the Crimestoppers SL pretty badly but I don't think it would be made any better by tacking on a reward at this late stage, even if most eligible people do claim one.

The sws have made no such claim.

The Host of this messageboard, who is not part of the production team but merely hosts the messages and runs the moderation team through her company, said she probably would not claim a reward. And many people do not belong to the something for nothing culture.

And YOU said she "deserves" a reward.

So Tayler (apologies for talking about you when you are not part of the conversation) doesn't seek, report back and present the views of the SWs and production team then?

I make no apologies for castigating the SWs etc for their cack-handed representation of the CrimeStoppers scheme. To misrepresent (whether by ignorance or otherwise) the superb work of the agency to fit a fictional story line does CS and all who work for them a massive disservice.

Yes I think Emma deserves a reward, To paraphrase, her brave actions - and the repercussions of Keef going to jail - will shock her family for a decade.

OK, answering my own question I checked the CS website which says that just 1% of people entitled to claim a reward do so.

So while it would not be impossible, it would be very unlikely for Emma to claim a reward. I can imagine the howls of protest on the MB if she were to do so.

    Hi all

Just to clarify a couple of things, I don't manage the moderation team. The Communities Team are responsible for this. I do keep in touch with The Archers production team and will liaise with them about storylines and queries on the message board and I have advance knowledge of what's coming up on The Archers and Ambridge Extra.

On the issue of Emma and possible compensation, as I said upthread, I have fed back to the team about this (along with the many other suggestions from this board about how she could improve her circumstances).

She may not even know the crime number if she didn't make a note of the number at the time - so too late now whatever the case ..

Ed and Emma would do much better claiming working tax credits, if they're that hard up they should be entitled to something, not to mention housing benefit and council tax benefit.

It always annoys me when the Archers get their benefit stuff wrong. They're always doing educational stuff about sheep dip, why not a bit of public information about benefits?

Presumably the point is that Emma was not doing this for financial gain, had no intention of collecting a reward and did not write down the code?

(There was no sign in the actual episode of her writing down a code, was there?)
