I have looked back a fair way on this discussion board but can find no mention of why Clarrie seems to have become a silent member of the cast. She is one of my favourite characters and I wondered what had become of her.

It was announced several months ago that the current actor playing Clarrie Grundy, the third person to play her, wanted to leave the programme. I can't remember why but presumably the powers that be want to leave a suitable interval before introducing a new actor. They have done so in similar situations in the past, so that the voice will have faded from our memories.
It used to be that the new actor in this situation would first appear on the other end of a phone call, but I don't think that happens any more.
will she have a cold when she turns up?

But why does nobody in Ambridge ever, ever mention her these days?
It is wierd. Are we supposed to forget HER, as well as her voice?
As for leaving a gap so we will forget her voice - it won't happen. We'll forget her voice when a new actor has been in post for a few weeks.
After they dropped that tractor on John, his voice lived on for nearly a year in the "Admiral" car insurance commercials. Until they replaced him with a cartoon.
OH heard today the Clarrie is to played by Heather Bell who played the part originally. Her voice is very similar so Ros was obviously chosen because of it.

Thanks Tayler.
However, why am I not surprised that it's a birthday celebration that Clarrie makes her 'return'? Why not have TA sponsored by Hallmark Cards and be done with it given the tedious and predictable way in which every briefcasing birthday in Ambridge cannot go uncelebrated?
