Its not long now folks .I booked my tickets today for the opening day . Yesterday I got a nice peace of card offering me discount on the entrance fee . So when you are booking enter the code DM8 and they'll knock you a couple of quid off each ticket . We just want the free parking next instead of the £8. Hope to see you there.

Hi. First time posting! I have booked tickets for GW2008. Although we visited for the last 2 years, this is the first time we have decided to drive as the train fares were phenominal (Manchester to Birmingham-think the early trains are priced for business people). Anyway my question is, what is the parking like? Are there long queues from the M6? If we leave stuff in the plant creche, do we have far to take it to the car park? Can you use trollies to get all your stuff to the car? It is actually quite exciting knowing that this year, we are not restricted to only buying what we can carry! Any tips appreciated! Thanks

Can I add one more question to yours Liz1wrox, is this normally a sell out show, or can you always just turn up on the day and get in with out buying tickets in advance?

You can turn up on the day and get tickets, or if you wish to get tickets in advance use the website

If you put gws in the prom code bit you get a small discount.

Parking is plenty, about a million spaces..HOWEVER be aware parking is about a £8 ticket.

I'm not sure what the M6 into the NEC is like as I've always approached by M42 but it is usually ok from the Mways.

As for how far to the car parks from the halls, it all depends on which car park you are put in to, in relation to which direction you get the the NEC, if you arrive at the show quite early then you are parked nearer the halls, throughout the day as it fills up, you will be a bit further away... so its difficult to say really.

Those cube trolleys are very popular i think 1 in 3 people have em. There are usually a few outlets selling them.

Slight concern about those creches... the queues to get your stuff out get very big towards the end of the show, so allow plenty of time.

I normally get out into the North cars parks from the M42 and its about 10-12 Min's walk from the halls so i usually take stuff back to the car when i have full bags, i leave a picnic in there as well.

I know if you buy big, bulky items there is a pick-up -point you can drive to buy one of the halls to load your car, but i have never used it myself.

The following was my advice posted last year. 2007
    ****

    Wear comfy shoes.
    Take thick shopping bags.
    Take some water.
    Take lots of SMALL change.
Take every opportunity for a pee.
    Take a Camera.
    Take your time.
    Take small raincoat..not umbrella.

Avoid anywhere with a Celeb.. (the area becomes a standstill and/or a scrum.) unless your into that sort of thing.

(If you subscribe to Gardeners World Magazine TAKE YOUR GREEN SUBSCRIBER CARD so you can get discounts from some stalls. )

Take a pen and note pad for plant names

Take Spare seeds to seed swap,
(If they have it this year, i'm as yet to find out.)
and YES you can take commercial packets such as T&M, Mr Fothergills etc...

If your driving get there early, then you get parked nearer the NEC, which is nice if you have to take stuff back to your car, or if you want to fetch a picnic.

And finally as this year has yet again new set up with the Good Food thing and Homes bit all of my advice might go out the window. So come on here after you have been and tell us what you bought, what you thought of it.

I'm going weds, when there are lots of plants still in stock for me to buy. smiley - smileysmiley - biggrin

All the best. smiley - smiley

We went last year and was so disappointed with the lack of gardening cos of (we thought) the combining of the other festivals. Were giving GW a miss because of that this year and going to Malvern instead. Hope you enjoy GW - will be interested to see what you think!

We went to the show yesterday, having visited for many years on the first day. We felt it was not as busy as usual, the trains were certainly less crowded and there was no queuing for food or the loos.it was lovely to be able to stop and look without being pushed by the crowds, perhaps it will get busier or perhaps the recession is starting to bite. The show gardens were good with lots of ideas to try in your own gardens. The plants on sale were good quality although we thought they were more expensive this year, not so many bargains to be had. The plant mall also seemed smaller than pervious years. As always the floral marque was a delight, the smell out of this world. Three tired ladies slept well last night. Enjoy yourselves if you go.
