Hmm, I'm not too sure either but the programme was good for me.

I liked it - and it was interesting seeing a clip of the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú orchestra recording it.

Absolutely a MISS. What on earth (no pun intended) were they thinking of replacing the beautiful "Natural Elements" with this rubbish? EVERYONE associates Natural Elements with Gardeners World these days. Even if I did have it by Acoustic Alchemy a long time before GW started to use it.

Very disappointed with the new arrangement. Spoiled the program for us somewhat.
The 'old' theme had a far more relaxed feel to it.
I can only hope that the powers that be are big enough to restore the original.

Its just not right somehow. It would be like changing the Match of the Day theme or Ski Sunday-some things should just be left alone. Nice theme in itself but there was something familiar and comforting about the old one...don't suppose they will bring it back? Like the hour long programme though and although I'll miss the team interaction at Berryfields at least they are all still presenting. On the whole, great new programme and opening filming shots but bring the old theme tune back please.

I really don't want to sound like a stick in the mud, and stand against progress, but frankly the changes to the theme music are beyond the pale - I'll be fast forwarding the titles every week!

I hate to be negative, as I like the new recording in itself, but in comparison to the traditional music, it lacks the verve/energy and upbeat vibe of the older tune which, to me, suggested life and growth of the garden.
The new one is a bit flat.
I would vote to bring the old music back, if asked.
Perhaps a comprise would be tradional tune for opening credits and new music for closing credits.

Absolutely awful - shrill and repetitive. The previous theme music was relaxed, mellow and melodious - please bring it back.

New tune, consign as quickly as possible to compost bin. Totally lost the ambience of the program.
Link to this forum: GW 2008 - New Theme Music - Hit or miss?
Why oh why didn't they choose something by Led Zeppelin?
Link to this forum: GW 2008 - New Theme Music - Hit or miss?
What next to moan about? The introductory music is not important to me. It's the programme content that matters. Have to agree about the music during the programme. That is not necessary.

I think the new theme tune is absolutely awful,
Iused to turn up the tv volume just to listen to the opening music,I will now be turning it off for a minute or two. Please bring back the old tune it is beautiful, it made me feel warm and cosy.

Your wish etc.....

I didn't like this theme music any more than I did the last one! Bring back the old perennial tune that was used in the Titchmarsh/Hamilton days. You heard that and knew Gardener's World was on.
Link to this forum: GW 2008 - New Theme Music - Hit or miss?
I don't like the new theme tune at all far too tiny.
Bring back the theme tune as used when Geof Hamilton presented it that tune was a great deal better.
I enjoyed the program though.

When I first heard it I thought "Oh dear I dont like that, doesnt say 'GW' to me not like the older theme tunes did". It didnt even seem to resemble the old music at all.
However when they showed the bit about the making of the new theme and heard it again over the closing titles and listened closely I could hear the similarities with the old music and it started to grow on me. I have just heard the opening music again on Iplayer and have decided i quite like it now!
It might sound strange now, but i think its only because it is new. Give it time and it will become familiar and say 'GW' when it is heard.

Shame on you
I seem to recall many contributors to the message boards taking a dislike to the previous title music when Monty took over and the show moved to Berryfields. Music from a porn film some compared it to!!!! I have to admit to not being keen on it at first (having liked the 'Alan' music a lot) but thought it was OK. We soon got used to it didnt we?

Opening credits - ooer, this is different, am I really watching GW here?
During the programme - HORRIBLE. Obtrusive, inappropriate, noisy, utterly unnecessary. Why can't we have garden sounds and birdsong instead of any music, we don't keep rock bands in our gardens do we? (and if we do, the neighbours have every right to complain) Think I'll use subtitles and mute button.
Clip of new theme being recorded - fascinating, though a bit repetitive, made me think of on-hold music on telephone systems, grrrrrr...
Closing credits, having seen clip - hmmm, yes, can see/hear old tune there, might get used to it, ok then...
Programme itself - liked it. Interesting new ideas/format/gardens. And welcome, Alys.

Loved new theme tune and loved new programme layout...brilliant to have a whole hour of Monty,Carol,Joe et al.

I liked the old tune better. I suppose we have to get used to the new one: it´s not very bad, but not as relaxed and down to earth as the old one.
Link to this forum: GW 2008 - New Theme Music - Hit or miss?
Whilst I found the new theme tune "different" I think it has a sense of warmth and growth that is very fitting to GW.
I will of course miss the old theme tune but I feel change should be a constant theme in gardening, so why not in my favorite gardening programme?
Link to this forum: GW 2008 - New Theme Music - Hit or miss?
Miss! the new theme is not music but MUZAK!
I don't like the music in the program either, and because it comes in louder than the spoken voice I have to keep putting the volume down and then back up to hear Monty.
What was a restful program to eyes and ears is now yet another irritating , loud, modernist ear-sore

It's a Miss. Vague, wishy washy, sounds like elevator music, should be stopped immediately. I didn't pay my license fee for this sort of thing, I will stop paying immediately and complain to the DG in person, and protest outside Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú HQ. Go back two steps to the Geoff Hamilton days.

Sorry to have to agree with most of the comments already posted about the new theme music. As the Americans say 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'. The previous theme was much more interesting musically and the graphics and the music gave one a feeling of the flow of the gardening year.
But on a positive note the programme was very enjoyable and informative.

Didn't like the new arrangement. The old one relaxed me into the weekend and filled me with anticipation for the spring/summer nearing. Liked the hour programme though and liked the different locations too.

Thumbs down from me for reasons I've explained on the New GW thread. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Spot on! The Geoff Hamilton Years music was memorable. It's like the DOCTOR WHO theme music; you can tamper with it too much before it looses the essence of the original. Too many TV produces think they should change for the sake of change. If they had "polled" - and the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú love asking the viewers what they want in this psuedo-interactive age we're all being sold at the moment - then I'm sure we would have chosen the Percy Thrower Years "sweeping-tinkley-tinkley" theme. Now, that that would have better.

I agree. Since we pay the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú for a service,we should have the chance to vote on what we like to view.Lets have a poll on Gardener's World theme tunes...Percy's,Geoff's and Alan's,Berryfields'early version or the new one. Bring back Geoff's and Alan's please!

What is wrong with you all ? Surely it's the G. W. content that counts. The introductory music is not important. I do agree that the music during the programme is very intrusive. But the rest is of no importance. Anything will do.

Sheila1, there's nothing 'wrong with us all', just because some people don't hold the same views as you, doesn't mean they are wrong - perhaps you might get alongside the notion of live and let live. For some of us the introductory music is important; it's an integral part of the GW viewing experience, and a welcome signal that the weekend is well and truly here after a hard week's work.

Sadly, I'm going to have to agree with you all and say miss. The new theme is a bit edgy and nervy, bit too modern for me and that's coming from a 24 year old! I could make a cup of tea and settle into my gardening with the old theme, forget my cares and relax.

Rather prefer the ‘Around the world in 80 Gardens’ theme.

An absolute miss. The previous arrangement was beautiful - earthy, solid + like other viewers I too turned the volume up. The weekend had begun.
I like to think of myself as open-minded + ready to adopt change. But why make this change?
Showing us pictures of the orchestra recording doesn't wash with me. Nor does telling us that it was the right time to do it with a new one hour programme (don't get me started on the use of the word "show"). If the intention of the new format was to make it more factual + in-depth - you have succeeded. Where you have failed is to add a light-weight, sickly-sweet introduction - albeit beautifully played.
It is our money you are spending - why don't you ask us first?
Like others - if it's not changed I guess I shall be turning the volume down on Friday evenings.

I love it!
It's a lovely variation on a good theme, and just what the show needed in my opinion.
At first I was in so much shock I didn't like it, but (pardon the pun), it's certainly grown on me - much to the point I can't get it out of my head!
Link to this forum: GW 2008 - New Theme Music - Hit or miss?
strikes me that the old theme was in the major key and the new arrangement is the major theme over a minor key arrangement... therefore creating tension... seems to have worked!
Link to this forum: GW 2008 - New Theme Music - Hit or miss?
Total miss - I've tried to live with it, but there's no energy, definately a flat point at the start and when its used at points within the programme. Doesn't say get up and go to me or even wow isn't this inspiring or beautiful

Like the fluttering of a butterfly on a gentle Summer's breeze, the original tune (especially with chuckling child) would wash away the weeks stresses and prepare you for a half hour pottering in Geoff or Alan's garden.
Now a strangled cats claws being dragged down a blackboard prepare us for an hour of snappy cutscenes of Joe slamming his van door and other non delights.
Monty, when you have recovered, your first job must be to sit down with the producers and sort this mess out.

Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn...............is it a music programme or a gardening programme for heaven's sake ?

It was obviously important enough for the programme makers to change the theme music, knowing that they were tampering with a long-established element of the programme (which was one of the few things no-one ever bleated about). The new music, while inoffensive, does nothing at all to enhance the programme. As I type, I can't for the life of me think how the new music 'goes'. I can only assume that it really was just change for the sake of change and I find such capricious behaviour worrying.

Now its been around a few weeks i have to say i rather like the new music. like many 'orchestral' theme tunes it has a slightly classier/refined edge to it and seems to fit the show well.
I hope at least some of you, who were sceptical like me at the begining, have at least got used to it now.

Football fans might well remember a few years ago when the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú decided to alter slightly another iconic tune; that of Match of the Day. That to didn't go down well with the viewers and public pressure eventually forced a rethink at the Beeb and thankfully they decided to go back to the old, original tune which had stood it in good stead for many years, and still does, I'm pleased to say, to this day.
