The best in a long while.
And Geoff hamilton too.
Friday night heaven.
That was quick!! I agree. I really enjoyed the programme, despite Monty's absence. I'm a fan of Carol though, and it was lovely to see Geoff Hamilton again. Shame about the snooker next week.
Agree, Carole wasn't too gushing and Geoff Hamilton was a lovely bonus. Joe is still living in cloud cuckoo land though.
I must agree one of the best shows in a long time.
I agree too. Great programme. Shame we have to wait 2 weeks for the next one.
Why do we have to wait? Oh, dont tell me, cricket, snooker, the tiddlywinks inter-county championship perhaps?
Shame we have to wait 2 weeks for the next one.Â
You need to understand that the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú considers gardening to be the poor relation, as can be clearly seen by their choking of the life out of these message boards.
to tonight's programme. I agree it's a shame that snooker will take over the slot next week! Oh, well - I suppose it may make me do some decorating, and then I can sit and watch the paint dry
And it seems as if it isn't just gardening boards being rather heavily dealt with DavidK. Looking around at other boards has been quite interesting. There used to be one for general discussion under the title "England" - but it was closed at the beginning of this month. All the regulars were up in arms about it - but the axe fell nevertheless.
(Funny - there are MBs for Wales, Scotland Northern Ireland & Asian - but not England. Hmmm.)
cheers

I totally agree last night was Gardeners World at it's best keep up the good work Carol and Co
I agree that was the best gardeners world for a while.
Even joe is beginning to look more at home on his allotment, and took the leg pulling from the other allotment holder re the triangles well.
Growing the sun flowers there is a good idea as well to get the children interested.
I missed most of last nights programme tuned in just in time to see Joe planting Gogy berries on the allotment - GOGY BERRIES!! Who in their right minds plants something silly like that on an allotment!
Correct me if Im wrong but isnt the whole idea of an allotment to grow vegetables and fruit to feed your family - items that you eat alot of and are expensive or hard to find in the shops?
His family didnt look all that convinced either, and those triangle beds.....they are so big you have to walk on them to reach anything I thought the whole point of raised beds was that you could reach the middle without standing on them?
I will have to watch the whole thing on Iplayer so I can see the wonderful Geoff Hamilton again now there was a man that inspired me to garden
Loved last night's programme.
It really inspired me to get out in the garden today to split plants and sow seeds.
Great to see Geoff Hamilton again. I reckon the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú have been listening to our comments 'cause we all are great fans. I have his Cottage Gardens video and it is still wonderful viewing.
Why oh why do we always have to give up our gardening programmes for MENS SPORT!!
Re: MEN'S SPORT (Well, Snooker - hardly a "sport").
The Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú should apprly for another Freeview digital channel and move all their sports to a Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú SPORTS channel.
As all the UK will be digital within the next 3-4 years, it might just pay off for the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú to do this.
Yes, more Geoff Hamilton. Clear, concise broadcasting with none of this "MTV style of editing" (i.e. lots of quick editing at a blink rate that seems to have crept, like Horsetail, into GW over the years.
Carol, sweetheart, could you ditch the scarf as it sometimes interferes with your microphone levels. Ta.
Yes I loved last night´s episode. It´s great fun to see Joe´s allotment develope from week to week!!!
And silly me: I really got a tear in my eye when they showed Geoff again...The good old days.
Enjoyed Fri's programme, but was surprised to see Alys planting wild garlic
Just proves that one man's meat is another man's poison, as I would be quite happy to get rid of the wild garlic that we have. It's everywhere!

Great programme, keep up the good work Joe and Carol, but who was the inexperienced young woman who was pricking out, she lacked skill and confidence.
I was taught to firmly press the compost in the tray before planting the seedling and to place the tray in water, not to water from the top with a watering can. I thought it was very misleading for beginners.
The jury is out on Alys - can't focus on what she's saying as i keep marvelling at her plummy voice
The jury is out on Alys - can't focus on what she's saying as i keep marvelling at her plummy voice Â
I really can't focus either, as really she keeps on saying "really really" all the time. Really.
In truth, I don't think she has a 'plummy' voice, more of a young person's west country accent - though a Scot is perhaps ill-advised to comment on accents. However, she has something called a 'blog', so she must be 'nae sma' drink'.
Really enjoyed tonights show, infact I have found 95% of this series much more watchable than the last couple of series.
Holbert hi I have thousands and thousands of bluebells can I get wild garlic to grow NO finally after ten years I have a tiny clump to my joy they are flowering as someone else has said one mans poison etc etc.
Never mind the sports channel, lets have a gardening channel and watch all the old Geoff Hamilton series plus all the new programes as well, that would be gardeners heaven. Still we can only dream.
Yes, I thought GW was a lot better last Friday 25/4. It was nice to see Geoff Hamilton, an old master, and Monty's side kick, good on her. It's about time she came to the front. Hope this format continues.
Two things I noted - first Carol mentioned (very quickly) that Monty's use of Growing Success Slug Bait had worked on the delphiniums. Then a presenter talking about lily beetles mentioned (very quickly) that bifenthrin and thiacloprid (Provado) work, though he did major on organic solutions.
A year ago this would not have been mentioned. Encouraging, i think!
message 16 Holly-Ivy-Mistletoe hi I was interested in your comment I thought the transplanting of the seedlings was excellant if you go to The Royal Horticultural Society book on Propagating Plants page 218,"Water the seedlings with a fine-rosed can to settle the roots." I'm sure there is more than one way to transplant seedlings but not possible to show them all.
I've had a ponder about Friday's show and think the inclusion of Geoff was more than just a straight-forward tribute.
I watch his DVDs etc but think times move on and that he'd agree. Harping on with "Geoff would have done this, and ooh he wouldn't have done that" is just pointless. I can happily accomodate him alongside my viewing of the current GW. Wasn't that kind of what Carol was saying when she drew attention to Monty's asparagus bed? Constructed lovingly just as Geoff did his. Asparagus aplenty last year, she observed, not a thing showing this year...quite symbolic I thought, and deliberately so. Let's move on, she was saying, and let the asparagus rest in peace and do it's own thing.
There was a lot of loving encouragement towards Monty tucked into Friday's show. Little things that I hope he appreciated. As for Joe planting Goji berries...just brilliant. Priceless, and very, very funny. Deliberately so, I presume?
Hello Holbert,
We moved into our new house in December and before deciding what to do with the garden, we waited to see what surprises were in store. Well - Wild garlic just about everywhere! But I think it looks quite pretty and we use it for cooking (nice delicate flavour and not too garlicky like the cloves). But also, loads and loads of bluebells, wall flowers, spinach, forget-me-not, a hydrangea, an azalea as well as two grapevines and a fig tree. Our previous owners were quite the keen gardeners, so for the moment we're quite enjoying it.
Anyway - I also enjoyed Friday's programme. The first episode of Joe's allotment left me cold, but I'm slowly warming to it. At the end of the day, it's his plot, let him do what he wants. I'm a big fan of Carol (scarf or no scarf!).
I thought of these boards when Geoff Hamilton came on. He's such a legend amongst boarders, I couldn't help thinking that the producers actually listened to people here for once!
A Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú free-to-air channel dedicated to Gardening and lifestyle? Not a bad idea. Move all the intelligent shows from Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú 4 and re-brand it...!
You see, Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú, Forums are useful.
will someone tell Joe to look at the camera when he is speaking to us whilst working on his allotment, I fine him looking elswhere whilst he is supposed to be speaking to us very annoying, where did he get this idea from - the naked chef?
