I see in my Ameteur Gardener magazine that the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú is going 'big on celebrity' for Chelsea TV coverage this year.

Pop Idol judge Nicky Chapman is the main presenter of Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú daytime coverage, joined by Blue Peter's East-end geezer Chris Collins and designer Andy Sturgeon. Evening coverage is by Alan Titchmarsh and Joe Swift, plus Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen (Home Front), Wesley Kerr, Rachel de Thame, Carol Klein and Chris Beardshaw.

Also heard some chap on the radio the other day talking about the "sheer prestige of Chelsea". He said the show was "literally dripping with excellence" this year and said standards are higher than ever before.

    Should be interesting to watch...

It certainly should be interesting to watch, and I hope it will, but as I work during the day and I neither know or care for the minor celebs mentioned, it will be a toss up as to if I bother to record more than one

I see in my Amateur Gardener magazine that the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú is going 'big on celebrity' for Chelsea TV coverage this year.
Further evidence that this package has got little to do with the millions of ordinary gardeners in the country, and has been transformed into the sort of programme that I avoid like the plague. I assume that the only reason that the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú cover this event, is that it's fairly cheap TV. As far as the 'celebrity' element is concerned, I confess that I haven't heard of the first three names mentioned, while the remainder are simply 'the usual suspects'.

Having been watching the "Chelsea Highlights" from years gone by on the UKTV Gardening channel, it's safe to say that it will be more of the same as you can barely tell the difference from one year to the next. Alan will be a bit more orange and up his own you-know-what, and Carole will definitely tell us how AMAZING the floral marquee is and what's her all time FAVOURITE plants are.
Then we'll see some concrete and water for the even more expensive "show" gardens.
But mostly we'll see more of Alan than we will of any plants.
Oh and not to forget the stirring interviews by the "celebs" with the "celebs". "Oh look it's Joanna Lumley! Amazing that an actress actually likes plants!"

    Ho hum

ps. I must be in bad mood today. My third rant already.
my apologies to everyone. must be the flower show time of year.

    happy gardening.

Nicky Chapman was on it last year.
Also. last year when the "celebrity culture of Chelsea " was queried, the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú said that the show coverage did not come under "gardening" but "entertainment" a different budget, based on different criteria...ho hum...

Chelsea is a bit like Ladies Day at the races. Its as much about who you are and what you are wearing as it is about the plants. I enjoy the TV coverage but not really as a gardener, more as a nosy parker smiley - laugh
