I have recently proudly spread my homemade compost on my garden. Not only have been bitten by lots of tiny "critturs" but now two beautiful wood pigeons have developed a new hobby of throwing my compost out of the flower beds and over the paths taking my newly sown seeds with them. They are most accomplished at this and I am wondering - have I done something odd to my compost? help!
No you haven't done anything wrong at all! All those lovely bugs which turned your waste into compost are now nestling deep in the bellies of those pigoens .
Pidgeons have done you a big favour by eating worms and bugs, otherwise they would have finished your plants in no time.
I wish the pigeons would attack my compost! They have pretty much stripped my cabbages
Hi all. Have you thought of putting netting over your new plantings. My allotment is on the edge of our site next to some trees and I would never consider leaving the plants to 'the open sky' and to date (fingers crossed ),in 4 yrs. have never lost anything to pigeons or other birds.... maybe slugs but that's a different matter. Worth trying.
I have netted some but didn't get to them all in time. It is quite a large patch of cabbage etc. The farmer has planted a field full next door, the pigeons ignore his!
